Tom Savage has 'closed the gap'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/24/14) Texans coach Bill O'Brien said rookie quarterback Tom Savage has "closed the gap" with No. 2 quarterback Case Keenum. Savage hit 5 of 6 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown against the Broncos on Saturday, while Keenum went 11 of 18 for 74 yards.
Ryan Fitzpatrick remains Texans' starter
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/11/14) Texans coach Bill O'Brien answered "Yes" when asked if quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is still his starter, reports the Houston Chronicle. Fitzpatrick completed 6 of 14 throws for 55 yards with two interceptions in a disastrous preseason opener.

Case Keenum and rookie Tom Savage will continue to compete for the backup job.

Bill O'Brien not ruling out change in QB rotation
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/10/14) Texans coach Bill O'Brien did not rule out a change in the quarterback rotation when asked about it Sunday, reports Pro Football Talk. Starter Ryan Fitzpatrick went 6 of 14 for 55 yards with two interceptions in Saturday's 32-0 loss to Arizona, while backups Case Keenum and Tom Savage combined to go 5 of 8 for 43 yards.

"I think you’re always thinking about what you can do to make the team better," O’Brien said. "So any time you have a chance to review things and regroup a little bit on a day off like it is today, as a head coach, you’re always thinking about things that can make the team better, whether that’s a change in the depth chart, a change in a scheme, a change of a position of a player, whatever it may be. We’ll continue to discuss that today."
Ryan Fitzpatrick picked off twice in first preseason start
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/10/14) Texans running back Ryan Fitzpatrick had a disastrous performance in his first preseason game as the unquestioned starter Saturday night against the Cardinals.

Fitzpatrick played the entire first half and was picked off by Antonio Cromartie and Marcus Benard. He completed 6 of 14 pass attempts for 55 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He averaged 3.9 yards per attempt and finished the game with a 14.6 passer rating. He also had a run for a gain of 23 yards in the second quarter.
Case Keenum ahead of Tom Savage in battle of backups
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/27/14) In the battle to back up Ryan Fitzpatrick, quarterback Case Keenum is getting more reps than rookie Tom Savage, reports the Houston Chronicle. Coach Bill O'Brien said Savage will get a legitimate shot.

"Tommy gets a lot of reps on his own because we do a two-spot drill (with two quarterbacks throwing at the same time to different receivers) early in practice," O'Brien said. “It balances itself out. We’ll take however many practices we need to determine who’s the backup quarterback. We’ll take our time with that."
