Cowboys scrambling at defensive end
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/30/14) With rookie Demarcus Lawrence expected to miss 8-12 weeks with a fractured foot, the Cowboys are thin at defensive end. Jeremy Mincey and George Selvie are running with the first team, and Martez Wilson and rookie Ben Gardner could get into the mix, reports the Dallas Morning News.

Dallas hopes Anthony Spencer can return from his microfracture surgery. He's currently on the PUP list.

Cowboys rookie DE Demarcus Lawrence out up to 12 weeks

Demarcus Lawrence a Day 1 starter
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/14/14) With DeMarcus Ware in Denver, the Cowboys view rookie Demarcus Lawrence as a Day 1 starter at right defensive end, reports the Dallas Morning News. Dallas traded up in the second round to select Lawrence, a Boise State product the Cowboys viewed "as one of three elite pass rushers in this year's draft," the report said.

If Lawrence struggles, Jeremy Mincey or Anthony Spencer could replace him, the paper said.

Cowboys, Demarcus Lawrence strike a deal

Cowboys trade up for Demarcus Lawrence
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/9/14) With the 34th pick in the NFL Draft, the Cowboys selected Boise State defensive end Demarcus Lawrence .

At 6-foot-3 and 251 pounds, Lawrence has the pass rush chops to contribute right away -- and the Cowboys need the help after losing DeMarcus Ware. Lawrence's speed is a positive -- he ran a 4.76 in the 40 at the Combine and shaved it to 4.69 at his Pro Day. He also has put on muscle since college. Lawrence's long, strong arms are an asset as well. If he can continue to add muscle then he'll overcome some of his college weaknesses (namely not being strong enough) and become a very good defensive end in the Cowboys' scheme.

The pick was acquired from division-rival Washington. To move up in Round 2 the Cowboys gave their second- and third-round picks this year.
