TE still open for Packers
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/17/14) The Packers are trying to figure out their tight end situation heading into training camp, reports ESPN.

The longer Jermichael Finley (neck) remains unsigned, the more likely it appears his time in Green Bay -- and perhaps in the NFL -- is over, despite his desire to continue to play.

The Packers re-signed Andrew Quarless to a two-year, $3 million contract in March, but that's hardly starter's money. The door is open for rookie third-round draft pick Richard Rodgers, who performed well enough during the organized team activities and minicamp practices (which Quarless missed because of injury) to move into the starting spot. Rodgers has the kind of dynamic athletic ability that Finley brought to the position.

The wild card there is Colt Lyerla, the undrafted but talented rookie from Oregon. Had Lyerla not left the Ducks' program and run into trouble subsequently last year, he might have been a high draft pick. The Packers also will have to assess whether Brandon Bostick can make a bigger impact than he did last season.

Richard Rodgers, Brandon Bostick make case to start
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/26/14) The Packers are trying to find a starting tight end this season, and two interesting candidates could be rookie Richard Rodgers and Brandon Bostick, reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

The report says Rodgers did a good job "separating himself as an MVP of organized team activities," while Bostick has to lose weight. He is back from a broken foot suffered last December, but he showed up at 270 pounds.

"I have to get my weight under control, come back and my goal is to be the starter," Bostick said. "I won't settle for anything less. I'm going to compete and do everything I can to be the starter."

The competition for the starting job will come down to Rodgers, Bostick, Ryan Taylor, Jake Stoneburner, Andrew Quarless and rookies Colt Lyerla and Justin Perillo. The Packers also could bring back Jermichael Finley if healthy.

Quarless likely has the inside track to start, but he's dealing with an injury. That has allowed Rodgers and Bostick the chance to make plays.

"I definitely think I can do it all now," Bostick said. "Coach knows that. So sometimes I go in on blocking situations. It's whatever he wants. Whatever they need me to do, I can hold it down when I'm out there."

Richard Rodgers to be Packers' starting tight end?
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(6/22/14) Richard Rodgers, a 6-4, 257-pound rookie out of California, "might have the inside track" to be the Packers' starting tight end, ahead of Brandon Bostick and Andrew Quarless, reports ESPN.com. At least once every offseason practice, Rodgers "made an eye-catching play in the passing game."

Coach Mike McCarthy said Rodgers, who got more reps due to Quarless' absence, was "very productive." The report said Rodgers must show "he can be an effective blocker once the pads come on in training camp, but at this point he might be in the lead."

Packers excited about Brandon Bostick
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/22/14) With Jermichael Finley and Andrew Quarless entering unrestricted free agency, the Packers "are excited to take a greater look at Brandon Bostick," reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The 6-3, 260-pounder's game bears "a striking resemblance to Finley's," the report said.

Bostick is a former college wideout who averaged 17.1 yards on his seven catches this year. He broke his foot Week 15, but should be running before March, the paper said.

"I definitely think I showed I can play with the guys," said Bostick, who's entering his third year in the league. "I can make plays on offense. I think I showed the coaches I can be a playmaker."

Packers place two on season-ending IR
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/21/13) The Packers placed two players on injured reserve Saturday, ending their seasons. Tight end Brandon Bostick (foot) and defensive lineman Johnny Jolly (shoulder, neck) had already been ruled out for Week 16, and with just one game remaining, the team opted to free up their roster spots.
