Vikings' Cordarrelle Patterson: I'm entering make or break year
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(10:23 am ET) Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson followed up a promising rookie season by catching just 33 passes for 384 yards and one touchdown in 2014 while making just six starts. He feels like 2015 will be a make or break year, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
"This year is going to make me or break me, and I hope I step up and have a good role in this offense," Patterson said Monday during the second week of voluntary workouts.
Patterson worked out in San Francisco last month while many of his offensive teammates were working out in Los Angeles.
"I feel like I needed to work on something different from what those guys were doing," Patterson said. "So I went to San Francisco."
He indicated he touched up on some skills that needed refining.
"This whole offseason, I spent a lot of time just thinking to myself, 'How can I get better?' " he said. "I just want to let my game speak for itself. I just focused on the little things that really matter, and I hope this year will be way better than last year. Just route running. Growing up, I was always athletic and could just do anything. I'm in the NFL now, so I just have to focus on my craft and just work at route running, getting in and getting out of breaks and stuff like that."
Patterson could open the season as the team's slot receiver depending on how the Vikings approach this weekend's draft.
Vikings coach Zimmer: Cordarrelle Patterson won't be traded
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(3/24/15) Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is keen on wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson. So much so, he doesn't want to get rid of Patterson via trade, according to NBC Sports Radio.
"No, no chance whatsoever," Zimmer said. "Cordarrelle is a young, emerging player who was with his third coordinator in three years. Quite frankly, we need to do a good job of figuring out how we can use him better and he needs to understand where he's supposed to be, the routes and everything."
Patterson struggled in 2014 with just 33 catches for 384 yards.
"He's going to play good football for us," wide receivers coach George Stewart said in December. "He's a first-round pick for a reason, and he's going to be very successful for us going forward."
Zimmer: Vikings need to 'manufacture' more touches for Patterson
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(2/19/15) Vikings coach Mike Zimmer acknowledged during his combine press conference on Thursday that the team will have to find ways of "manufacturing" touches for wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, but said that it's a "two-way street," per NFL.com.
Zimmer is seeking a bounce-back season for Patterson after a disappointing 2014 campaign. in a highly disappointing second season. In 2013, Patterson finished with 45 catches for 469 yards and four touchdowns and 12 carries for 158 yards and three touchdowns. He caught 33 passes for 384 yards and a touchdown in 2014.

Patterson caught 33 passes for 384 yards and a touchdown in a highly disappointing second season.
Vikings' Patterson: 'I need to take full advantage of the offseason"
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(12/29/14) Following a promising rookie season, Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson had a disappointing campaign in 2014. He now heads into the offseason looking to improve, with his eye on bouncing back in 2015.
"It wasn’t the year I wanted, like I had last year," Patterson said, per The Star Tribune. "I feel like last year was a good year for me and I felt like I was going to come back and capitalize off that. Week 1, you know, things was good. But after that, it just started going downhill. I blame myself for everything. I need to just take full advantage of the offseason and get better."
Patterson has no specific goals for the offseason, but he does have an idea of what he wants to accomplish.
"I just want to work with Matt [Cassel] and Teddy [Bridgewater] and whoever in the offseason, just pick those boys’ brain and talk to [Norv] Turner and [Mike] Zimmer and see how he wants things done in this offense and just take full advantage of this four months or whatever," he said. "Just take advantage and just try to learn the offense more than I already know and, like I said, just take advantage of it."
|After Week 1, Cordarrelle Patterson looked like the stud talent we all thought he'd end up being. And then he basically crashed, failing to total even 75 yards in six straight games before breaking out for what became a season-high 86 yards in Week 8. The Vikings claim to be committed to Patterson but won't trust him with a big role in 2015. To wit, the team has talked up late-season bloomer Charles Johnson and acquired veteran Mike Wallace to shore up the receiving corps. As a result, Patterson might be relegated to special teams and occasional offensive work. After being a trendy No. 2 receiver last year, Patterson might not get drafted in any standard Fantasy league this year.
