by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/14/14) The Giants hope middle linebacker Jon Beason, who's recovering from a foot injury, will return during the first three weeks of the season, reports The Star-Ledger. In his absence, Jameel McClain and rookie Devon Kennard will compete for the starting job.

The paper is betting on McClain thanks to his six years of experience with the Ravens.

by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/13/14) Giants linebacker Jon Beason, who was carted off the field during practice Thursday with an injured right foot, is now headed for surgery, reports NFL.com.

The report says Beason suffered a sesamoid fracture in his right foot, per a source aware of the diagnosis. He's expected to miss 12 weeks, which puts Beason out for most of training camp and threatens his availability for Week 1.

Rookie Devon Kennard would handle middle linebacker duties if Beason is out for any regular season action.

(6/13/14) After veteran linebacker Jon Beason was carted off the practice field with a foot injury, Giants rookie linebacker Devon Kennard took his spot in the middle of the defense according to the Newark Star-Ledger. He had been working as the backup middle linebacker through OTAs.

He finished his four-year career with 195 tackles and 13 sacks, but finished third in the PAC-12 with nine sacks in 2013.

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/10/14) With the 174th overall pick in the draft Saturday, the Giants added linebacker Devon Kennard out of the University of South Carolina.

Kennard had issues with his health in college, suffering a torn pectoral in 2012 and requiring three surgeries on his hip, thumb and knee in the span of three years. He finished his four-year career with 195 tackles and 13 sacks, but finished third in the PAC-12 with nine sacks in 2013.
