Lions defense falters in win over Saints

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/20/14) The Lions DST unit finally hit a bump in the road Sunday, in a 24-23 win over the Saints in Week 7.

The Lions streak of double digit Fantasy scoring games came to an end at four Sunday, though they still managed a respectable 7 points, thanks to two turnovers. They also sacked Drew Brees once, while allowing 408 yards of total offense in the win.

The Lions have still put up five double-digit Fantasy games in seven tries, and will look to do so in Week 8 against the Falcons.

Lions could keep rolling vs. Saints

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/16/14) The Lions' defense has been one of the league's best so far, and even a matchup with the Saints in Week 7 shouldn't be enough to deter Fantasy owners.

The Lions rank second in the league in Fantasy scoring among DST units, at 15.7 per game, thanks to a strong pass defense that has racked up 20 sacks and seven interceptions. They may not able to hold the Saints' passing game in check even with those numbers, however the Saints haven't been as explosive as expected on offense anyways.

Three of the Saints' last four opponents have logged double figures in scoring from the DST unit, and New Orleans might be without their top weapon with Jimmy Graham dealing with a shoulder issue.

Even if Graham plays, there is reason to think he will not be as effective as usual. Though it would have come as a shock even two months ago, the Lions can be considered a solid starting option against the Saints in Week 7.

Lions defense let down in loss

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/5/14) The Lions defense held up their end of the bargain in Week 5, but it was not enough to come out ahead in a 17-14 loss to the Bills.

The Lions held the Bills to 343 yards on 5.1 yards per play, a solid number. They allowed just six points through three quarters, before the Bills scored twice to put the game away. The Lions forced one turnover on an interception of Kyle Orton, and added a pair of sacks in the loss.

During a season in which the offense has bee surprisingly quiet, the Lions have ridden the defense to a 3-2 record. They are allowing 15.8 points per game heading into Week 6 against the Vikings.

Lions worth an add this week

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/30/14) With the Bills and newly minted starting quarterback Kyle Orton on the schedule, Jamey Eisenberg has the Lions as his top waiver-wire add among DST units for Week 5.

Opposing DST units have enjoyed solid success against the Bills in recent weeks, with the Chargers and Texans both scoring in double figures. A big part of that was the subpar play of quarterback EJ Manuel, who threw a pick-six to the Texans a week ago. Whether Orton, who has started just one game since 2011, will be an improvement is still to be seen, however the Lions' pass rush has been dominant at times this season, and could make life hard on Orton.

The Lions should be worth starting in Week 5, given how well they are playing right now.

Lions hold Jets to two touchdowns in win

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/28/14) The Lions DST unit did a solid job for the second straight week Sunday, in a 24-17 win over the Jets in Week 4.

The Lions allowed two second-half touchdowns to sully an otherwise strong performance, but they did a solid job in limiting the Jets to just 336 yards of total offense. They forced a pair of turnovers and sacked Geno Smith twice to boot.

The Lions have allowed fewer than 20 points in three of four games, and will have a pretty good chance to do so again in Week 5 against the Bills.
