Lions defense gets little help in tough loss

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/17/14) The Lions defense come up with a solid performance in Week 11, but it wasn't enough to win a defensive struggle against the Cardinals.

The Lions allowed just two early touchdowns in the game, and shut the Cardinals' offense out from that point on, but that was enough to cost them in the 14-6 loss. The Lions held the Cardinals to 352 yards of total offense and forced a pair of turnovers, but also came up with no sacks of quarterback Drew Stanton in the loss.

The defense has been the best part of this Lions' team all season, with the DST unit scoring at least 8 Fantasy points eight times in 10 games. They will have a tough time keeping that up in Week 12, with the Patriots on the schedule.

Lions DST rallies from slow start

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/26/14) The Lions DST unit got off to a very slow start in Week 8, but buckled down enough to put together a decent showed in a 22-21 win over the Falcons.

The Falcons torched the Lions early, for three touchdowns in the first half, including 211 yards of total offense. The Lions buckled down in the second half, however, ultimately holding the Falcons out of the end zone and allowing just 80 yards of offense.

The Lions ended up with one turnover and two sacs, en route to 8 Fantasy points in the game, their second game in a row with fewer than 10. They are on a bye in Week 9, but have a solid matchup in Week 10 when they return, with the Dolphins on the schedule.

Lions defense falters in win over Saints

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/20/14) The Lions DST unit finally hit a bump in the road Sunday, in a 24-23 win over the Saints in Week 7.

The Lions streak of double digit Fantasy scoring games came to an end at four Sunday, though they still managed a respectable 7 points, thanks to two turnovers. They also sacked Drew Brees once, while allowing 408 yards of total offense in the win.

The Lions have still put up five double-digit Fantasy games in seven tries, and will look to do so in Week 8 against the Falcons.

Lions could keep rolling vs. Saints

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/16/14) The Lions' defense has been one of the league's best so far, and even a matchup with the Saints in Week 7 shouldn't be enough to deter Fantasy owners.

The Lions rank second in the league in Fantasy scoring among DST units, at 15.7 per game, thanks to a strong pass defense that has racked up 20 sacks and seven interceptions. They may not able to hold the Saints' passing game in check even with those numbers, however the Saints haven't been as explosive as expected on offense anyways.

Three of the Saints' last four opponents have logged double figures in scoring from the DST unit, and New Orleans might be without their top weapon with Jimmy Graham dealing with a shoulder issue.

Even if Graham plays, there is reason to think he will not be as effective as usual. Though it would have come as a shock even two months ago, the Lions can be considered a solid starting option against the Saints in Week 7.

Lions defense let down in loss

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/5/14) The Lions defense held up their end of the bargain in Week 5, but it was not enough to come out ahead in a 17-14 loss to the Bills.

The Lions held the Bills to 343 yards on 5.1 yards per play, a solid number. They allowed just six points through three quarters, before the Bills scored twice to put the game away. The Lions forced one turnover on an interception of Kyle Orton, and added a pair of sacks in the loss.

During a season in which the offense has bee surprisingly quiet, the Lions have ridden the defense to a 3-2 record. They are allowing 15.8 points per game heading into Week 6 against the Vikings.
