Packers DST can't contain the defending champs
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/5/14) The Packers DST had a rough game against the Seahawks Week 1.

Green Bay allowed 36 points to the defending champs during the game. The team had no answer for Marshawn Lynch, who gained 110 yards and two touchdowns during the game. Green Bay also had a difficult time dealing with the read-option and play-action looks the Seahawks gave them during the start. Both the Seahawks passing touchdowns came on plays where Russell Wilson faked a handoff.

The Packers did have some poor luck during the outing. The Packers were able to sack Wilson one time, but we managed to use his legs to escape a couple other close calls. On top of that, the team had multiple drives extended by defensive holding penalties and a running into the kicker call. They also dropped two possible interceptions, and were put in some bad field situations by the offense.

The Packers will look to rebound against the Jets Week 2.

Packers DST looking at a tough task Week 1
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/3/14) The Packers DST should have a tough time Week 1 against the Seahawks.

The Packers didn’t have a strong Fantasy defense last season, but made strides during the offseason to correct those flaws. Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was selected in the first round of the draft, and Julius Peppers was brought in to give the club another pass rusher.

Though the Seahawks aren’t thought of as an offensive juggernaut, the team did a great job putting up points against Fantasy defenses last season. Defenses posted 7.42 Fantasy points per game when facing Seattle. That was one of the lowest rates in the league.

On top of that, there are reasons to think Seattle will be better on the offensive side of the ball. Percy Harvin is healthy, and Russell Wilson should be given more responsibilities in his third season. Marshawn Lynch is expected to be the team’s bell cow once again, so the loss of B.J. Raji could really come into play during the game.

The Packers have emerged as more of a sleeper Fantasy defense in drafts, and, because of that, owners should wait to see if the team lives up to that status. The Packers aren’t a recommended start Week 1.

Packers DST can't corral Colin Kaepernick
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/5/14) Depleted by injuries, the Packers DST held up well for the most part against the 49ers in Sunday's playoff loss. But the unit could not contain quarterback Colin Kaepernick's running, dooming Green Bay.

Kaepernick ran seven times for 98 yards, more than half of San Francisco's 167 rushing yards. Green Bay gave up 381 total yards and 23 points.

Cornerback Tramon Williams picked off Kaepernick in the second quarter, his fourth interception this year. Linebackers Nick Perry and Brad Jones and defensive end Mike Daniels all registered sacks.

The Packers DST should be stronger in 2014 assuming top pass rusher Clay Matthews returns healthy from his broken thumb.

Packers record late interception to clinch postseason spot
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/29/13) The Packers were not at their best, but managed to squeak by the Bears in Chicago in Week 17.

Green Bay had a hard time containing Chicago's running game, as Matt Forte gashed the defense for 110 yards on the ground. The defense also allowed two touchdowns and 226 yards passing from Jay Cutler. The Packers sealed the victory after Sam Shields picked off Cutler in the end zone on the final play of the game. The defense sacked Cutler once, forced two turnovers and allowed 345 yards of total offense in a 33-28 victory.

Green Bay will host the 49ers in the first round of the playoffs.
Packers DST impotent in loss to Steelers
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/22/13) The Packers DST would have needed a score to become a viable Fantasy play Sunday against Pittsburgh. And they didn't get one.

All they accomplished was two turnovers - one interception and one fumble recovery. They allowed the Steelers to tally 38 points and rack up 343 total yards. And the one sack hardly made a dent.
