Dolphins dominate on D in easy win
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/28/14) The Dolphins DST unit took advantage of the Raiders' inexperience at quarterback Sunday, in a 38-14 win.

The Dolphins dominated the Raiders' offense, especially after the opening drive. The Raiders amassed just 317 yards of total offense in the game, as Miami's defense forced four turnovers. Three came on interceptions of Matt McGloin and Derek Carr, and the fourth was on Cortland Finnegan's 50-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

The Dolphins defense just gave up 34 points to a punchless Chiefs' team, so this was a good showing. They are on a bye in Week 5, and will almost certainly not be worth using after that, with the Packers on the way in Week 6.

Steelers, Dolphins, Chargers top streaming options in Week 4
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/23/14) In his Week 4 waiver-wire column, Jamey Eisenberg tabs the Steelers, Dolphins and Chargers DST units as the best streaming options for Week 4.

The Steelers have a date with the Buccaneers coming up in Week 4, and that has been a good thing for other defenses this season. Opposing DST units are averaging 18.3 Fantasy points per game against the Bucs, including two games above 15 points.

The Dolphins travel to London to face the Raiders, who have yet to top 14 points on offense this season. Opposing DST units have scored 12 Fantasy points in each game against Oakland.

The Chargers are coming off a strong performance, as they racked up 13 Fantasy points against the Bills, on the strength of three sacks and a safety. They get the Jaguars in Week 4, who have allowed opposing defenses to rack up at least 15 Fantasy points in each game, for an average of 19.0.

Dolphins fall flat in Week 2 loss
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/14/14) The Dolphins DST unit faltered Sunday, in a 29-10 loss to the Bills in what looked to be an easy matchup.

The Dolphins limited the Bills to just 315 yards of total offense, but suffered from a serious lack of big plays. The Bills put up 29 points on the Dolphins, despite scoring a touchdown in just one of six trips to the red zone. The Dolphins forced no turnovers and had no sacks in the game either.

Big things were expected from the Dolphins DST unit this week, after they overpowered the Patriots in Week 1. They will look to bounce back when they take on the Chiefs in Week 3.

Dolphins gets after QB in win
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/8/14) The Dolphins rushed the passer well in Sunday's 33-20 win over the Patriots in Week 1, and Olivier Vernon and Chris McCain were part of the reason why.

Vernon had one of the team's four sacks, to go with three solo tackles in the win. McCain, appearing in his first NFL game, made an impact on defense and special teams. He blocked a punt early in the game and came up with his first NFL sack later.

Four sacks, two turnovers highlight Dolphins opener
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/7/14) The Dolphins defense put together a strong performance in Week 1, as they shut down the Patriots offense for much of a 33-20 win.

The Dolphins were gashed for 20 points in the first half, but much of that came as the result of short fields for the Patriots' offense. The defense buckled down in a big way in the second half as they shut the Patriots out, while forcing two turnovers on strip sacks by Cameron Wake. The Dolphins had four sacks overall, while limiting the Patriots to just 315 yards on 80 total plays.

The Dolphins DST unit won't face many tougher opponents than they did in Week 1, so the question will be whether they can keep this kind of performance up moving forward. They take on the Bills in Week 2.
