Texans defense forces three turnovers in overtime loss

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/5/14) The Texans defense adopted a bend-don't-break strategy in Week 5 against the Cowboys and it nearly worked out, however they fell 20-17 in overtime.

Though they were tagged for 456 yards of total offense, the Texans allowed just two touchdowns in the game. They forced three turnovers -- two on fumbles -- and added one sack in the loss.

The Texans have enjoyed an easy early schedule, and are holding their first five opponents to 17.4 points per game. They face their toughest test yet in Week 6, however, with the Colts on the way.

J.J. Watt scores again as Texans DST dominates

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/28/14) The Texans bounced back from their worst performance of the season with a big game on the defensive side of the ball Sunday, in a 23-17 win over the Bills in Week 4.

The Texans held the Bills to just 316 yards of total offense, and came up with a multitude of big plays. Though EJ Manuel was only sacked twice, the Texans came up with two interceptions, including one that was returned 80 yards by J.J. Watt early in the third quarter.

The Texans have allowed just 16.8 points per game through four weeks, and have held three of four opponents under 20 points so far. They might have a hard time repeating the feat in Week 5, with the Cowboys on the schedule.

Texans struggle to stop the run during Week 3 loss

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/21/14) The Texans defense had its worst performance of the season during a 30-17 loss Week 3 at N.Y. Giants. Not only did the Giants total three touchdowns and three field goals, but they finished with 419 yards, which included 176 rushing yards from Rashad Jennings.

The Texans did force a fumble down inside the 5-yard line as the Giants were driving for a score in the first half. They also got a sack from J.J. Watt, while linebacker Brian Cushing finished with a team-high 17 tackles (eight solo). Safety Kendrick Lewis had a team-high 11 solo tackles and finished with 12 total tackles and one forced fumble.

The Texans will look to rebound Week 4 vs. Buffalo.

Texans force four turnovers in Week 2 win

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/14/14) The Texans had another field day in Week 2 against the Raiders, forcing four turnovers in a 30-14 victory.

Kareem Jackson and Brooks Reed each came down with interceptions. Johnathan Joseph and D.J. Swearinger each recovered a fumble. Houston limited Oakland to 364 yards of total offense, 263 of which came from the aerial attack.

The Texans will travel to New York for a Week 3 showdown against the Giants.

Texans give up yards Week 1, but hold Redskins to one TD

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/7/14) The Texans defense had a bend-but-don't-break mentality during a 17-6 win Week 1 against the Redskins. While Washington put up 372 yards, including 131 rushing yards, Houston allowed just one touchdown -- a 1-yard run by Darrel Young in the second quarter.

The Texans also forced two fumbles and had three sacks. And it wasn't just all the defense Sunday. The special teams unit also got involved.

Defensive lineman J.J. Watt blocked an extra point, and Alfred Blue blocked a punt in the second quarter, which he picked up and ran in for a 5-yard touchdown.

Though, it was not all good news for the Texans defense. They lost rookie Jadeveon Clowney to a knee injury and it appears he's going to be out for a while. NFL.com reports Clowney is slated to miss 4-6 weeks due to a torn meniscus.

The Texans are back in action Week 2 at Oakland.
