Cardinals DL Calais Campbell could practice later in the week

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/20/14) Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said he is hoping defensive end Calais Campbell, who has missed the last two games due to a knee injury, will return to practice later in the week.

Campbell has totaled 16 tackles, one sack and one interception in four games. The Cardinals play the Eagles in Week 8.

Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson being evaluated for knee injury

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/20/14) Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Monday safety Rashad Johnson is being evaluated for a possible patellar tendon injury. However, he could be dealing with severe tendinitis.

Johnson has totaled 36 tackles (32 solo), two interceptions and one sack through six games. He also has one touchdown and two pass defenses.

Cardinals keep points off board again

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/19/14) Though they didn't intercept three passes and return one for a touchdown like in Week 6 against Washington, the Cardinals had another strong defensive showing Week 7 at Oakland, limiting a Raiders offense that appeared to hit its stride against the Chargers one week earlier to 13 points on 220 yards. Both were season bests for the Cardinals, which is saying something considering they've allowed fewer than 20 points in four of six games this season.

They had only one notable play on the defensive side of the ball -- a sack by Larry Foote in the second quarter -- but they had a successful showing in Fantasy regardless. Apart from Week 5 at Denver, an understandable time to fall short, the Cardinals DST has been as consistent as they come in Fantasy.

It has an iffy matchup Week 8 against Philadelphia, but in standard 12-team leagues, the Cardinals DST is probably worth starting again.

Cardinals defense seems to like having an offense

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/13/14) The Cardinals defense seemed to respond well to having some help with quarterback Carson Palmer back from a shoulder injury Week 6 against Washington, turning in arguably its best performance of the season. Though they allowed 20 points on 107 yards, the Cardinals sacked Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins twice and intercepted him three times, returning one 28 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. They also recovered a fumble.

With Drew Stanton under center, the Cardinals needed the defense to carry the load after Palmer went down in Week 1, and it was up to the challenge until getting blown out by Peyton Manning and company in Week 5. Now with an offense backing it, the Cardinals defense no longer has to play so tight and turned in some big plays as a result. It has the personnel to do more of that going forward.

The Cardinals DST is a good bet for another big performance Week 7 at Oakland. True, the Raiders hung 28 points on the Chargers in Week 6, but they've still allowed the sixth-most Fantasy points per game to DSTs this season.

Cardinals LB Matt Shaughnessy placed on short-term IR list

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/6/14) Cardinals linebacker Matt Shaughnessy was placed on the injured reserve/designated for return list because of knee cartilage damage, head coach Bruce Arians told the media on Monday, per the team's official website. The injury is expected to keep him out of action for approximately six weeks.
