Ravens CB Asa Jackson will return to practice Friday

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/21/14) Ravens cornerback Asa Jackson will return to practice Friday, per the team's official website. Jackson was placed on the short-term injured reserve after suffering a severe toe sprain on Oct. 5. He's not eligible to return to game action until Week 14 against Miami.

Touchdown saves the Ravens DST

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/3/14) The Ravens did not have a good defensive showing Week 9 Pittsburgh. After not even giving up 30 points in any of their first eight games, they allowed 43 on 376 yards. Yet because Jacoby Jones returned a kick 108 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, the Ravens DST still had a respectable showing in Fantasy, scoring double-digit Fantasy points for the fifth time in six games.

Their three sacks and fumble recovery helped, but those weren't anything new for the Ravens during that six-game stretch. Some of those games even came against respectable offenses. Most notably, the Ravens limited the Colts to 20 points in Week 5.

The Ravens DST has been consistent enough to start in Fantasy even with less-than-favorable matchups. It's a no-brainer with a favorable one Week 10 against Tennessee.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith expected to be sidelined through the bye

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/27/14) Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters in his Monday news conference that cornerback Jimmy Smith will likely be sidelined until the bye week with a foot sprain, according to the Baltimore Sun. Harbaugh specified that Smith's sprain, which will keep him out a few weeks, is not of the Lisfranc severity.

Smith suffered the injury Week 8 at Cincinnati. He registered 28 combined tackles and one interception before getting hurt.

Ravens DST survives rough game

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/26/14) The Ravens weren't at their best defensively Week 8 at Cincinnati. In fact, by some measurements, they were at their worst. They allowed a season-high 27 points on 350 yards, and their two sacks were significantly fewer than the five they had in Weeks 6 and 7.

Still, a lot of defenses would take two sacks on a bad day, and the Ravens also had two takeaways, an interception and a fumble recovery. It all added up to eight Fantasy points for their DST in standard CBSSports.com leagues.

The Ravens DST had scored no fewer than 10 Fantasy points in its previous four games, but eight is an awfully high floor. It has an iffy mathcup Week 9 at Pittsburgh, which may compel some owners in shallower leagues to check the waiver wire for a sleeper at the position, but there's no shame in starting the Ravens DST either.

Ravens the latest to beat up on Falcons

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/19/14) The Ravens were the latest to take advantage of the Falcons' offensive struggles in Week 7, limiting them to just seven points on 254 yards. They recorded five sacks for the second straight game after recording just five in their first five combined. They also recovered a fumble and even had a safety.

It was the Ravens DST's fourth straight game with double-digit Fantasy points in standard CBSSports.com leagues, and while, again, the Falcons are struggling right now, two of those other games came against the Panthers and the Colts.

In other words, the Ravens DST is looking like the kind of unit you can trust just about every week in Fantasy. Certainly against a Bengals team that was just shut out by the Colts, you'll want to keep it active for Week 8.
