by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer (12/9/13) The Packers held on for a one-point victory in Week 14, limiting the visiting Falcons to 21 points on 285 yards, but they were lacking in big plays, recording just one sack and one interception. They did also have a fumble recovery -- a direct result of the sack.
The Packers entered the day tied for third in sacks, but the interception was just their seventh this season. The 21 points were the fewest they had allowed since Week 7, and the 285 yards were the fewest they had allowed since Week 8.
Their matchup Week 15 at Dallas figures to be a more difficult one, making the Packers DST a less-than-advisable start in Fantasy.
Usual standouts quiet for Packers
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer (12/9/13) Packers linebackers A.J. Hawk and Clay Matthews didn't make their usual contributions Week 14 against the Falcons. Neither player contributed a sack, and neither was especially productive with tackles either. Hawk had four, including two solo. Matthews had three, including two solo.
The four were a season-low for Hawk, who's averaging 8.2 in 13 games. Matthews is averaging just 3.9 in nine games.
Mike Neal, Jarrett Bush both step up
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer (12/9/13) Linebacker Mike Neal and defensive back Jarrett Bush made the big plays for the Packers defense in Week 14 against the Falcons. Neal recorded the team's only sack on the day, forcing a fumble that teammate Johnny Jolly recovered. Bush had the team's only interception.
Neal's sack was the only tackle between the two.
Morgan Burnett leads way in tackles
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer (12/9/13) Packers defensive back Morgan Burnett continued to make an impact with the tackles Week 14 against the Falcons, leading the team with eight, six solo.
The eight tackles were actually the fewest he's had in four games. He's averaging 8.0 in 10 games this season.
More big plays in store for Packers defense?
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer (12/4/13) Despite giving up 40 points and 561 yards to the Lions in Week 13, the Packers DST still had a productive afternoon in Fantasy thanks to two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a touchdown. With the Falcons coming to town, the Packers might have a few more big plays in store in Week 14.
The Falcons are tied for ninth with 21 giveaways, but 15 have come in the seven games since wide receiver Julio Jones was lost for the season with a foot injury. They just gave up six sacks to the Bills in Week 13, and while the Bills are first in the NFL with 43 sacks, the Packers are tied for third with 38.
Plus, the Falcons don't have quite the offensive firepower the Lions do, especially with Jones down. They scored 34 points against the Bills but averaged 14.8 in their previous five games.
