Vikings pass rush dominates in loss

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) The Vikings DST unit continues to turn their season around, as they racked up 18 Fantasy points in a 17-16 loss to the Bills in Week 7.

The Vikings relied on a healthy pass rush that made up for the 373 yards of total offense allowed. They sacked quarterback Kyle Orton six times and picked him off once, while adding three fumble recovered in the loss.

The Vikings had just one double-digit Fantasy point effort in the first five games of the season, but now have two in a row. They will look to extend the streak to three in Week 8 against the Buccaneers.

Vikings solid against struggling offense

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/13/14) The Vikings had an uncharacteristically strong defensive showing Week 6 against a Lions team that has struggled to put up points. Though they still lost the game, the Vikings allowed just 17 points on 255 yards. They also had four sacks.

It was their best showing since Week 1 at St. Louis, when Austin Davis was still getting acclimated. They had five sacks in that game and five in four thereafter.

Of course, they faced some stout offenses, at least historically speaking, in those four games, including the Patriots, Saints, Falcons and Packers. Still, the Lions have averaged just 16.2 points in their last five games and may have had as much to do with this poor showing as the Vikings DST.

The Vikings have a decent matchup Week 7 atBuffalo, but their DST remains just a low-end play in Fantasy.

Vikings S Harrison Smith ditches walking boot

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/8/14) Vikings safety Harrison Smith ditched the walking boot over the weekend, but his playing status for Week 6 against Detroit remains uncertain, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Smith injury his ankle the previous week against Green Bay and was unable to practice Tuesday. He will likely need to return to the practice field in order to play on Sunday.

Smith has registered three interceptions and 27 total tackles this season.

Vikings again hold their own

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/29/14) The Vikings DST hasn't endeared itself to Fantasy owners with its performance so far this season, but considering its last three games have come against the Falcons, Saints and Patriots, three historically prolific offenses, its numbers really aren't so bad.

The Vikings limited the visiting Falcons to 28 points on 411 yards in Week 4, picking off quarterback Matt Ryan twice and taking him down once.

In the one favorable matchup they had Week 1 at St. Louis, they allowed just six points on 318 yards, recording five sacks and two interceptions. They even contributed a touchdown.

Unfortunately, the road doesn't get any easier for them Week 5 at Green Bay, so you can leave the Vikings DST on waivers in Fantasy.

Vikings limit Saints offense

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/21/14) After their offense -- or more specifically, quarterback Matt Cassell -- betrayed them Week 2 against New England, the Vikings bounced back with a decent defensive performance against the hosting Saints in Week 3, limiting them to 20 points on 396 yards.

They didn't have many big plays, just a sack from rookie linebacker Anthony Barr, but still, limiting the high-scoring Saints to 20 points on 396 yards is an accomplishment unto itself. Remember: The Vikings defense had no shortage of big plays Week 1 at St. Louis, recording five sacks, two interceptions and a touchdown.

Unfortunately, Minnesota has another tough matchup Week 4 against the Falcons, so don't count on the Vikings DST just yet in Fantasy.
