(12/21/14) After a dominant performance on the road against the Bears in Week 15, the Saints defense looked more like itself back at home against the Falcons in Week 16, allowing 30 points on 403 yards. It had no sacks or interceptions (or takeaways of any sort) after setting season highs with seven and three against the Bears.
In standard CBSSports.com leagues, the Saints DST was worth zero points on the day. It was the second time in three weeks it was shut out in terms of Fantasy production.
The Saints DST is averaging just 5.4 Fantasy points in its last seven games -- and that's including that season-best performance against the Bears. Even with a favorable matchup Week 17 at Tampa Bay, it's a shaky option in Fantasy.
Saints take advantage of Bears' mistakes in win
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/16/14) The Saints defense, one of the league's least effective units this season, got some help from Jay Cutler in a surprisingly stout showing in Week 15's 31-15 win over the Bears.
The Saints racked up 19 Fantasy points in the game, their best showing of the season, thanks to three Cutler interceptions. They held the Bears to just 278 yards of total offense as well, while also sacking Cutler seven times in the win.
The Saints DST unit has recorded double digits in Fantasy points just four times all season, and they could struggle to do so again in Week 16 against the Falcons. The Saints had just 3 Fantasy points in their Week 1 matchup with Atlanta.
Saints DST not getting any better
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/7/14) After giving up 30-plus points in back-to-back games, the Saints had another poor showing on the defensive side of the ball Week 14 against Carolina, allowing 41 points on 497 yards. With zero sacks and zero takeaways, the Saints DST had zero Fantasy points on the day, according to standard CBSSports.com scoring, giving it an average of 3.0 in its last four games compared to 14.0 in its previous four.
This matchup against the Panthers was thought to be a favorable one, too. The Saints DST had its best performance of the season at Carolina in Week 9, scoring 22 Fantasy points. With a so-so matchup at Chicago in Week 15, the Saints DST probably isn't worth using in Fantasy.
At least LB Curtis Lofton did his job for Saints on Sunday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/7/14) The Saints played horribly on defense Sunday against Carolina, but don't blame middle linebacker Curtis Lofton. He contributed to a season-high and game-high 17 tackles, including one for a loss.
Saints can't slow Steelers down late
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/30/14) The Saints DST unit struggled mightily again in Week 13, a 35-32 win over the Steelers.
The Saints gave up three touchdowns to the Steelers in the second half, while surrendering 538 yards of total offense. They did come away with a pair interceptions in the game, however, while sacking Ben Roethlisberger once.
The Saints DST unit has failed to record double digits in Fantasy points in each of their last four games, though they could end that streak in Week 14 with the Panthers on the schedule. They registered their best game of the season, an 18-point showing against the Panthers in Week 9's matchup.
