49ers allow 17 second-half points in Week 3 loss
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (9/21/14) The 49ers defense allowed 17 second-half points Sunday, and the Cardinals stormed back for a 23-14 win Week 3. Arizona finished with 338 yards, which included 84 rushing yards.
San Francisco held Arizona to a pair of first-half field goals before rookie wide receiver John Brown had touchdown catches of 21 and 24 yards in the third quarter to put Arizona ahead.
The 49ers did force a fumble of wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald in the red zone in the fourth quarter. However, they recorded no sacks and no interceptions in the loss.
San Francisco is back in action Week 4 vs. Philadelphia.
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com (9/15/14) Beset by injuries and suspension, the 49ers DST failed to force a turnover in the 28-20 loss to the Bears and their turnover-prone quarterback, Jay Cutler. The unit allowed Cutler to complete 13 of 14 passes in the second half and throw for four touchdowns overall.
While San Francisco allowed only 216 total yards, the defense rarely pressured Cutler. The 49ers hit him three times all game and recorded just one sack, by defensive lineman Justin Smith. The secondary was helpless to stop wideout Brandon Marshall, who caught three touchdowns.
The 49ers DST heads to Arizona in Week 3.
Ray McDonald has court hearing postponed
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (9/13/14) The court hearing for 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald has been postponed, the National Football Post reports.
"The investigation of the McDonald matter continues," the Santa Clara District Attorney announced. "Monday's court date will be postponed. A later date will be announced by the court."
McDonald has been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, but it has yet to be determined whether formal charges will be filed. The defensive tackle will continue to play with the team while the legal process runs its course.

The 49ers DST should once again be a top unit this season, but two key players might be missing early in the year NaVorro Bowman (knee) isn't expected to return to the middle of the season, and Aldon Smith could be facing a suspension. We'll find out when those two will be on the field during training camp, but we still have plenty of confidence in the 49ers DST to make plays. The unit was No. 5 in Fantasy points in a standard league in 2013 with 38 sacks, 18 interceptions, 11 fumble recoveries, five defensive touchdowns and one safety. They held their opponents to 272 points, and this is the third year in a row they have been a Top 5 Fantasy option. We would draft the 49ers with a late-round pick in all leagues. Once the Seahawks DST comes off the board then get ready to draft the 49ers because they are likely the No. 2 unit coming into the season.
