Report: Buccaneers LB Lavonte David will sit out Week 12

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/23/14) Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David, who shares the league lead in tackles with 116, won't be able to add to his total on Sunday. According to the Tampa Bay Times, David will sit out his first game of the season in Week 12 against the Bears with a hamstring injury. David was unable to practice Thursday and Friday because of the issue.

His next chance to return will come Week 13 against Cincinnati.

Buccaneers defense comes up big in Week 11

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/17/14) The Buccaneers took advantage of the Redskins' offensive woes Sunday, in a 27-7 win in Week 11.

The Buccaneers defense largely shut the Redskins' passing game down, thanks to a tremendous pass rush that generated six sacks. The Redskins ended up with 322 yards of offense including just 167 through the air, and the Buccaneers came up with a huge play in the first quarter, as Jonathan Banks returned a Robert Griffin III pass 19 yards for a touchdown. That was one of two interceptions and three turnovers in the game.

The Buccaneers DST unit hadn't scored in double figures in Fantasy points since Week 5, prior to Sunday's 24-point showing. They will look to keep the good times going in Week 12 against the Bears.

Buccaneers get some sacks, picks

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/2/14) The Buccaneers defense didn't exactly shut down the hosting Browns in Week 9, but it had one of its better performances of the season, allowing 22 points on 330 yards.

Where the Buccaneers really stood out from earlier weeks was the number of big plays. They had three sacks after recording just one in their previous three games combined, and they also had two interceptions, their first since recording three in Week 5.

The Buccaneers DST doesn't get much attention in Fantasy -- and for good reason -- but performances like this one show it can be relevant with a favorable matchup.

It has such a matchup Week 10 against Atlanta -- a much different team than the one that gashed the Buccaneers for 56 points back in Week 3. Still, because of that gashing, be sure to consider all your options before resorting to the Buccaneers DST.

Buccaneers DST something short of good

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/26/14) After allowing an average of 41.25 points in their previous four games, the Buccaneers limited the visiting Vikings to 19 points, including just 13 in regulation, on 332 yards. But because they had only one sack and no takeaways, it didn't translate to much Fantasy production for their DST.

We know all too well how the Buccaneers DST fares with an unfavorable matchup. Since it didn't do so hot with this favorable ones, it'll be hard to trust in any scenario going forward. The Buccaneers have another favorable matchup Week 9 at Cleveland, but their DST probably belongs on waivers in standard 12-team leagues.

All-Pro Gerald McCoy says Buccaneers defense has been 'soft'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/23/14) Buccaneers All-Pro defensive tackle Gerald McCoy did not hold back Thursday when talking about the team's defensive struggles. He said the defense has been "soft" through six games, per ESPN.

"Yeah. I mean if you look out there on tape and you see a bunch of guys sitting on blocks, are you not earning the title of being soft?'' McCoy said. "I mean, guys get so sensitive around the league, but we have to be men. This is a man's league. This is a man's league and we're professionals. Guys have issues with criticism. I've been getting criticized since I've been in the NFL, and I don't even feel it anymore. It is what it is.''

The Buccaneers rank last in total defense (422.8 yards per game) and last in scoring defense (34 points per game).

"I think we're making too many excuses,'' McCoy said. "There's always a reason why this is happening or why that's happening. It has to stop. We just have to say, 'OK, I did wrong, I didn't win that one, I have to win the next one and the one after that.' If you win 70 percent of your battles, you have a shot to win, simple as that."
