Buccaneers add Alterraun Verner for four years
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (3/11/14) The Buccaneers seem intent on moving corner Darrelle Revis in the coming days, but they made sure to lock up a replacement before doing so. The team agreed to terms on a four-year, $26 million deal with free agent corner Alterraun Verner Tuesday, according to FOXSports.com.
Verner finished the 2013 season with a career-high five interceptions and two fumble recoveries, while adding 57 tackles.
Trade appears unlikely for Darrelle Revis
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (3/11/14) Though the Buccaneers placed defensive back Darrelle Revis on the trade block, a trade is starting to look unlikely according to NFL.com Tuesday. Though a few possible suitors popped up, it seems like the Bucs' low asking price could not be met.
The next step is likely to come Wednesday, as the Buccaneers have to have Revis off the roster by 4 p.m. or a conditional fourth-round draft pick due to the Jets becomes a third-rounder. Revis appears likely to hit the open market as a free agent before that occurs.
Darrelle Revis' days numbered in Tampa Bay?
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (3/10/14) The Buccaneers are expected to cut star defensive back Darrelle Revis by 4 p.m. ET Wednesday if they cannot find a trade partner, according to a report from ESPN on Monday.
Revis has a $1.5 million roster bonus due on Wednesday. He was traded from the Jets to Tampa Bay for the 13th pick in last year's draft (Sheldon Richardson) and a conditional fourth round pick in this year's draft. That fourth rounder would become a third round pick for the Jets if Revis is still on the roster after 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Revis returned from ACL surgery to play in all 16 games with Tampa Bay last season, recording 50 total tackles and two interceptions in 16 starts.
Contribution from Da'Quan Bowers would be a bonus
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com (2/6/14) The Buccaneers' new coaching staff says it has high hopes for defensive end Da'Quan Bowers, but "it will be a bonus" if the team gets any meaningful contribution from him moving forward, reports ESPN.com. Bothered by a knee problem last season, Bowers had seven tackles and a sack in 13 games and was unable to hold a starting job.
