Brandon Bostick to miss a couple weeks
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/18/14) Packers tight end Brandon Bostick will miss a couple weeks with his lower leg injury, coach Mike McCarthy told reporters. Bostick's absence will give rookie Richard Rodgers a chance to entrench himself as the starter.
Richard Rodgers gets the start
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/17/14) Rookie tight end Richard Rodgers started for the Packers on Saturday night, playing the entire 12-play opening drive, reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He was not targeted but he lined up all over the field and was more open in the end zone than Randall Cobb when Aaron Rodgers hit Cobb for a 3-yard touchdown.

Richard Rodgers is battling Brandon Bostick and Andrew Quarless for the starting job.

TE still open for Packers
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/17/14) The Packers are trying to figure out their tight end situation heading into training camp, reports ESPN.

The longer Jermichael Finley (neck) remains unsigned, the more likely it appears his time in Green Bay -- and perhaps in the NFL -- is over, despite his desire to continue to play.

The Packers re-signed Andrew Quarless to a two-year, $3 million contract in March, but that's hardly starter's money. The door is open for rookie third-round draft pick Richard Rodgers, who performed well enough during the organized team activities and minicamp practices (which Quarless missed because of injury) to move into the starting spot. Rodgers has the kind of dynamic athletic ability that Finley brought to the position.

The wild card there is Colt Lyerla, the undrafted but talented rookie from Oregon. Had Lyerla not left the Ducks' program and run into trouble subsequently last year, he might have been a high draft pick. The Packers also will have to assess whether Brandon Bostick can make a bigger impact than he did last season.

Aaron Rodgers talks up tight end Richard Rodgers
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/9/14) The Packers are unsettled at tight end, which means rookie Richard Rodgers could emerge as an option. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers certainly liked throwing to the 6-4, 257-pounder in the spring, and Richard Rodgers could be the starter "sooner rather than later," reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

"When we made the pick, some of the so-called experts on the draft channel said he was a late sixth-round pick ... which is pretty laughable when you watch the talent he's got and the ability," Aaron Rodgers said. "You have to be excited about his body type and the hands.

"He's made some incredible catches, makes it look easy. I think he's going to push for some playing time if he can transfer what he's done in the spring now to the fall and have the potential to be an impact player."

Richard Rodgers ran a 4.87 forty coming out of California, two-tenths of a second slower than Jermichael Finley ran back in 2008, and often lined up in the slot in college, the paper said.
