by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (9/12/14) The Patriots have four players from the defensive side on the injury report for Week 2 against the Vikings, and all enter the weekend with their availability for Sunday's game in doubt.
Defensive linemen Michael Buchanan (ankle), Chris Jones (ankle) and Sealver Siliga (hand), along with linebacker Jamie Collins (thigh) are all considered questionable for Sunday. All four were limited in practice throughout the week.
Patriots pass rush fails to show up in opening loss
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (9/8/14) The Patriots had little success getting after the quarterback in Week 1 against the Dolphins, as Rob Ninkovich and Chandler Jones combined for no sacks in the 33-20 loss Sunday.
Jones had four solo tackles in the game, while Ninkovich had five. Neither player recorded a quarterback hit in the game, as the team's pass rush was basically nonexistent.
Jamie Collins plays well in opener
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (9/8/14) Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins had a decent showing in Week 1 against the Dolphins, a 33-20 loss.
Collins had eight solo tackles in the loss, as he finished second on the team. He added a pass defense and a forced fumble as well.
Jerod Mayo starts season with strong performance
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (9/8/14) Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo made a big impact in Week 1 against the Dolphins, albeit in a 33-20 loss.
Mayo led the team in tackles with 12 -- 10 solo -- and was the only player to get to the quarterback in the loss. He had one sack in the game.
Early success not enough for Patriots DST
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (9/7/14) The Patriots defense forced a slew of turnovers early in Sunday's game against the Dolphins, but fell apart late in a 33-20 loss.
The Patriots DST unit came up with three big first-half plays, as they forced a trio of turnovers and limited the Dolphins to 10 points before halftime. They recovered a pair of fumbles and interception Ryan Tannehill once, but did little else otherwise, recording one sack total in the loss.
The Patriots DST failed to live up to expectations in the opener, but will look for better results in Week 2 against the Vikings.
