Bengals defense gets deeper
(5/6/13) The Bengals made only one real splash in free agency, signing ex-Steelers linebacker James Harrison to play strong-side linebacker for them. But they added some interesting talent in the draft in behemoth-but-raw pass rusher Margus Hunt, linebacker Sean Porter and strong safety Shawn Williams.
Bengals unable to claw back
(1/5/13) Tasked with stopping one of the top offenses in the NFL, the Cincinnati defense was up to the challenege and held Houston to just one touchdown during an AFC Wild Card matchup Saturday night. Unfortunately, the Bengals offense could not muster a touchdown of its own as Cincinnati was eliminated from the playoffs with a 19-13 loss. The Bengals' only trip to the end zone came on Leon Hall's 21-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter before they were outscored 13-6 the rest of the game following the play.
Bengals get a late score
(12/30/12) Cincinnati's defense got a break in Week 17, as the Ravens rested almost all of their starters after the first few drives Sunday. As a result, Baltimore was able to total just 352 yards, in a 23-17 Bengals win. The Bengals forced one turnover in the game, as Carlos Dunlap leapt up to intercept a Tyrod Taylor pass, that he would return back for a 14-yard touchdown. The Bengals racked up four sacks as well.
Bengals aiming to limit Flacco
(12/27/12) The Bengals defense will head into the final week of the season with a tough matchup at home against the Ravens. The Bengals have allowed just 216.9 yards passing (10th) and 100.6 yards (eighth) on the ground this season. They'll face a Baltimore offense that has averaged 352.5 yards per game on offense, 113 yards (15th) on the ground and 239.5 yards (13th) through the air per game this season. In preparation for Baltimore, with (Joe) Flacco and with Ray Rices ability to make people miss, it's important we do a fantastic job of staying on our feet and tackling this week. You have to factor their ability to throw the ball to (Anquan) Boldin and (Torrey) Smith, and the tight end position is playing real well having (Ed) Dickson back and (Dennis) Pitta," said head coach Marvin Lewis. "Last week they were on fire and played as well as they probably have since the first game of the year against us. They're back in stride."
Bengals bother Big Ben in Week 16
(12/23/12) The Bengals defense did a solid job of limiting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers in Week 16. Cincinnati picked Roethlisberger off twice, returning one for a touchdown, and sacked him four times while limiting him to 220 yards passing in the 13-10 win. Defensive back Leon Hall intercepted him in the first quarter and returned it 17 yards to the end zone. The Bengals also recovered a fumble on the final play of the game to total three turnovers in the victory.
