Report: Patriots reach agreement with WR Reggie Wayne
|by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer|
|(8/24/15) Veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne has signed a one-year deal with the Patriots, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Wayne, who tried out for New England last week, was also tied to the Packers in the aftermath of Jordy Nelson's apparent knee injury.
The 14-year veteran played his entire career with the Colts, but is coming off triceps surgery. He is seventh on the career receptions list (1,070), eighth in receiving yards (14,345) and 22nd in receiving touchdowns (82).

Wayne caught 64 passes for 779 yards and two touchdowns for Indianapolis last season.

|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(7/20/15) The Patriots, Ravens, Texans and Packers are among the teams showing interest in veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne, according to WRTV-6 in Indianapolis. The Broncos were also interested, but have since backed off, per WRTV sports director Dave Furst.
Wayne told reporters Friday he wanted to play one more season in the NFL and has been in contact with teams, but he did not divulge the list of interested organizations.
Wayne has played the first 14 years of his career with the Colts and is coming off triceps surgery in February.
Former Colts WR Reggie Wayne wants to play one more year
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(7/17/15) While speaking with reporters on Friday, veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne said he still wants to play one more season in the NFL before retiring. He said he feels good coming off triceps surgery in February and feels great physically.
Wayne said he has been in contact with teams, but it doesn't appear he is headed for a reunion with the Colts, which is the only team he has played for during his 14-year career.
The 36-year-old Wayne is seventh on the career receptions list (1,070), eighth in receiving yards (14,345) and 22nd in receiving touchdowns (82).
Former Colts WR Reggie Wayne considering options
|by Dave Peters | CBSSports.com|
|(4/2/15) After being told by Colts general manager Jim Irsay that he was not in the team's plans moving forward, wide receiver Reggie Wayne still wants to play one more season, reports theindychannel.com. He has received interest from teams this offseason and he is weighing his options at this point.
“Just not done, yet,” he said, adding that signing with another team “will have to make sense to me. No doubt in my mind I’ve got a minimum of one, maybe two years left in me. I ain’t done, yet.”
Wayne insisted he’s gotten “damned good” interest from teams, but declined to name them. “I’m just going to consider my options,” per the same report.
Wayne was asked if he was disappointed in the team's decision to not keep him around.
“Was I disappointed? Yeah,” Wayne said. “But did it surprise me? I’m never surprised in this league. When they get rid of Peyton Manning, you know you ain’t nothing. When you see them get rid of Marvin Harrison, who am I? They got rid of Edgerrin James.
“But yeah, I was disappointed. Who isn’t disappointed when they’re told their credit card has been declined when they know they’ve got money in the bank. That was me. I knew I still could play, but I had been declined.”
Wayne, 36, has totaled 1,070 receptions for 14,345 yards and 82 touchdowns in 14 seasons with the Colts.
|It appears as though Reggie Wayne's playing days are over. In early April he said he'd play in 2015 if the "situation is right" but he remained unsigned through much of the offseason. Wayne had surgery on his knee and triceps this winter and is still recovering from the procedures. If he signs, it'll likely be on a cheap deal with a contender who is desperate for veteran leadership at receiver. Wayne had 779 yards on 64 catches with two touchdowns last season and would be hard-pressed to match those numbers in 2015. Keep him out of your draft plans at this point.
