Preseason Outlook

Duckett hopes for increased role: The News Tribune reports Seahawks RB T.J. Duckett fulfilled his role last season as the team's short-yardage and goal line runner. He finished with only 172 yards, but totaled eight touchdowns. While satisfied with how he performed in a limited role last year, Duckett said Thursday that he's pleased with his expanded role in the new Seattle offense, thanks to being reunited with offensive coordinator Greg Knapp. Duckett had his best success since arriving in the NFL playing for Knapp-led offenses. In Knapp's first year in charge of the offense in Atlanta, Duckett averaged a career-high 4.9 yards a carry. At 6-foot, 254 pounds, Duckett will be the bruiser in Seattle's backfield combo, along with the more elusive Julius Jones.

Duckett might get a chance at a few more carries this year, but he's still going to be the goal-line back for the Seahawks. Consider him with a late-round pick in standard leagues and a middle-round selection in touchdown-only formats.

2009 Fantasy outlooks: Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks could be a surprise team for Fantasy owners in 2009 if all of their parts can stay on the field. Our Dave Richard takes a close look at Seattle's potential this season.

T.J. Duckett had his third eight-TD season in 2008 (fourth with eight or more) with the Seahawks, providing the club with the bruising short-yardage presence they needed. His average was poor (2.8) as he had 172 yards rushing, but 26 of his 62 carries went for first downs, and that's why he's on the 'Hawks. Duckett could be in line for more work in 2009 as the Seahawks are thin at running back heading into the draft. Ultimately, Duckett should keep his job as a sledgehammer in the Seattle offense, and as such is worth a gander as a low-end reserve running back in leagues this season. He's going to be one of those "six-or-nothing" type of players for owners to consider using as a one-week replacement during the season. (Updated 3/17/09)
