Ravens 'counting on' Reed's return: Ravens coach John Harbaugh says he expects safety Ed Reed to return the team and play in 2012. "Ed is a guy that I really trust and really care about," Harbaugh said. "I believe in him. There's been no indication that he's not going to play this year as far as I'm concerned. I don't worry about Ed. Ed's a mature guy. He's a superstar. He's a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He's a leader. Ed will be here. We're counting on Ed being here." (Updated 05/25/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Reed snapped a two-year skid of being hurt and played in 16 games in 2011, totaling 52 tackles with a sack, eight passes defensed, three interceptions and a forced fumble. We've seen him do better in the past and we could be looking at a player declining because of age. He's fine as a No. 2 Fantasy DB but don't reach for him knowing that he might not be as good as he's been in the past. (Updated 05/25/2012).
05/17/2012 16:36 Ed Reed's comment looks like negotiating ploy
Baltimore's Ed Reed is at it again. This time he tells Sirius Radio that he's "not 100 percent committed" to playing this season, whatever that means. Me? I think it means he's trying to squeeze that ever-elusive extension out of the Ravens.

Baltimore's Ed Reed is back at it again, telling Sirius Radio that he's "not 100 percent committed to playing" this season. Stop if you've heard this before. The Ravens have, which is why this looks more like a negotiating tactic to squeeze an extension out of the club.

Ed Reed is at it again in Baltimore, telling Sirius Radio that he's "not 100 percent committed" to playing football this season, and interpret it how you want. Me? It looks like Reed's way of influencing talks to a contract extension that hasn't come.
Ed Reed's been in the league for 10 seasons, making it through 16 games last year. There's no promise he'll make it through an 11th season given his recent neck and hip issues. Moreover, the one-time Fantasy superstar isn't quite as productive as he's been in the past. For example, he had fewer interceptions and passes defensed in 2011 than he had in 2010, and he played six fewer games in 2010. If anything, he's a nice reserve worth a late-round pick and a good one-week replacement choice when the Ravens face a passing team. (Updated 4/19/12)
