Saints axe Spagnuolo, move to 3-4
(1/25/13) The day after Saints head coach Sean Payton reunited with his team in Mobile, Ala., and claimed his team's defense kept him up at night, the team fired defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and announced they were changing to a 3-4 front. Secondary coach Ken Flajole was also fired. Last season the Saints ranked 31st against the pass, allowing 281.9 yards per game and 31 touchdowns through the air. They also ranked dead last vs. the run allowing 147.6 rush yards per game and 18 scores.
Saints DST scores, get run over
(12/30/12) The Saints DST ended up with a touchdown Sunday in Week 17 against Carolina, but they couldn't do much else in a 44-38 loss. Jonathan Vilma had an 18-yard interception return for a touchdown, but the Saints had just one sack and allowed 530 yards of total offense, raising their season total to 7,042 to break the old record of 6,793 allowed by the 1981 Baltimore Colts.

Saints unable to catch up to Bryant
(12/23/12) The New Orleans defense was effective in containing one Dallas superstar during the teams' Week 16 matchup as the unit held running back DeMarco Murray to just 40 yards on 11 carries. However, the Saints were unable to slow wide receiver Dez Bryant, who torched the secondary for a career-high 224 yards and two touchdowns on nine catches, before escaping with a 34-31 overtime win. The robust total represented more than half of the yards recorded by quarterback Tony Romo (416) as New Orleans was unable to generate an interception.
Saints creating late momentum
(12/22/12) In a season that has been filled with turmoil, especially on the defensive side, New Orleans has been desperately searching for any positives. The Saints may have found one in Week 15 after posting their first shutout of the season in a 41-0 rout over Tampa Bay. New Orleans will attempt to extend its momentum into Week 16 at Dallas, which is averaging 23.4 points per game this season, while scoring at least 27 points in three of its past four games.
