Kiffin brings change to Cowboys D
(1/11/13) The Cowboys have hired veteran defensive coach Monte Kiffin to serve as their defensive coordinator, multiple outlets report Friday. The move signals a major change in philosophy for the Cowboys as Kiffin will serve as their fourth defensive coordinator in four years. Kiffin has made a career out of building defenses out of the "Tampa-2" scheme as part of a 4-3 front. The Cowboys have predominantly run a 3-4 defense for years.
Cowboys can't stop the run
(12/30/12) The Cowboys DST failed to come up big as they could not stop the run during Sunday's season finale against the Redskins in Week 17. Dallas allowed rookie running back Alfred Morris run up and down for 200 yards with three touchdowns in a 28-18 defeat. The Cowboys sacked Robert Griffin III just once and failed to come up with a turnover as they allowed 361 yards on the night.
Cowboys ready for RG3 rematch
(12/26/12) The Cowboys will have a tough task at hands heading into the regular season finale at Washington. Dallas must win Sunday's game to clinch a potential playoff spot and will have to slow down rookie Robert Griffin III, who torched the Cowboys for 304 yards passing with four touchdowns and an interception on Thanksgiving Day. The Cowboys have allowed an opposing quarterback to top 300 yards passing in each of the last two games,
Cowboys blitzed through the air
(12/23/12) For the first time this season, the Dallas defense failed to record a sack and allowed New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees to amass 446 yards and three touchdown passes during the Cowboys' 34-31 overtime loss in Week 16. Dallas also failed to force a turnover while allowing the Saints to control time of possession by nearly 20 minutes. "They executed better than we did," defensive coordinator Rob Ryan told reporters. "Thats all there is to it. We have to play better than that. It wasnt good enough and we made mistakes and that kills you."
Cowboys on lookout for air raid
(12/22/12) The Dallas defense has enjoyed a strong turnaround this year after revamping its secondary during the offseason, leading to the 14th-ranked pass defense in the league (225.1 yards allowed per game through the air). That unit will be tested during Week 16 against New Orleans and star quarterback Drew Brees. But the Cowboys could be up to the challenge as they have permitted more than two touchdown passes in a game only once this season and have recorded an interception in each of the past two outings.
