Depth helps Titans defense
(5/15/13) The Titans added some good depth on defense in the NFL draft, picking up Missouri linebacker Zaviar Gooden, LSU defensive end Lavar Edwards and UConn cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson, among others. With the team adding safeties George Wilson and Bernard Pollard as their only major free agent signings, the rookies help out what is already a good if not underrated defense.
Titans DST racks up four TDs
(12/30/12) Tennessee became the first team in NFL history with two players scoring twice on returns in a game as the Titans beat the Jaguars, 38-20, Week 17 in their season finale. Darius Reynaud scored on two punt returns and Zach Brown returned two interceptions for touchdowns all in less than 5 minutes. Reynaud also became the first player in franchise history to return two punts for touchdowns. The Jaguars finished with 375 yards, including 122 rushing, but they managed just two offensive turnovers and turned the ball over three times. The Titans defense also had seven sacks.
Titans D doesn't pass test
(12/23/12) Having allowed just 17.6 points per game and 285.8 yards per game since Week 9, the Titans defense looked like a unit on the rise heading into Week 16 at Green Bay. But the Packers quickly put an end to that, scoring 55 points -- their most since 1983 -- on 460 yards. The Titans recorded only one sack on the afternoon and didn't force a single turnover.
Improved Titans D has tough test
(12/20/12) The Titans got off to a miserable start defensively this season, giving up 30 or more points in seven of their first nine games and 400 or more yards in five of their first nine. But since a 51-20 loss to Chicago in Week 9, they rank fourth in scoring defense, allowing 17.6 points per game, and third in total defense, allowing 285.8 yards per game. "They are playing better as a group, and because of that you are seeing individual guys step up and make plays," coach Mike Munchak told the Tennessean Tuesday. Coming off a Week 15 performance in which they forced five turnovers and recording four sacks, the Titans enter Week 16 at Green Bay with their heads held high. But they'll be facing a Packers team that is averaging 26.1 points over its last 11 games. "This will be a fun challenge -- a great quarterback, great offensive system," Munchak said.
