Texans D gets deeper in draft

(5/7/13) The addition of safety Ed Reed was the biggest move the Texans made defensively this offseason, but many drafted players should pad their depth. Safety D.J. Swearinger could be the heir-apparent to Reed at free safety, Sam Montgomery and Trevardo Williams are pass rushers and Chris Jones adds beef to the defensive line.

Houston has a problem with Brady

(1/13/13) A week after punishing Cincinnati's Andy Dalton, the Houston defense was unable to generate the same success against New England quarterback Tom Brady in Sunday's AFC Divisional Playoff game. Brady carved up by the Texans for three touchdowns, including a pair of scores to seldom-used running back Shane Vereen, and Houston failed to record an interception. The Texans registered only one sack on Brady and also finished without a turnover for the just the third time this season.

Texans march over quarterback

(1/5/13) The Houston defense effectively contained quarterback Andy Dalton to one of his worst outings of the season during a 19-13 victory over Cincinnati in an AFC Wild Card matchup Saturday night. The Texans deployed a furious pass rush throughout the game and Dalton was held to just 127 yards passing and no touchdowns. He managed an unimaginable three yards on 4-of-10 passing in the first half as Houston quickly struck Bengals receivers near the line of scrimmage after hauling in passes. The Texans also tallied two sacks and an interception. "I think it was a full defensive effort. Everybody was flying around and we were getting off the field on third downs," J.J. Watt said of the team that didn't let the Bengals convert a third down on nine tries.

Texans lay egg against Colts

(12/30/12) The Texans DST did not do nearly enough to contain Andrew Luck and the Colts in Indianapolis on Sunday of Week 17. Houston dropped the regular-season finale and limps into the playoffs without earning the top overall seed in the AFC. The Texans DST gave up 265 yards of offense in the game to the Colts, but did not force a single turnover and only had one sack in the game.
