(3/16/13) After reports surfaced of a possible split earlier this week, the Patriots officially released veteran wide receiver Brandon Lloyd on Saturday, the team announced. Lloyd had 74 receptions for 911 yards and four touchdowns last season for New England while adding 12 catches for 102 yards and a score in two playoff games. The 31-year-old joined the Patriots as a free agent last March, his third organization in the past two seasons.

(3/15/13) The Patriots and receiver Brandon Lloyd are negotiating a restructured contract after ESPN reported the team wasn't planning to pick up a $3 million roster bonus due this weekend. In late February the Boston Globe believed the Patriots were going to let Lloyd go. Cutting him will save the Patriots $4.9 million against the cap and keep a player with erratic behavior out of the locker room.

A league source says Lloyd isn't even on the team's current depth chart. (2/26/13) The Boston Globe says there's internal debate over whether or not the Patriots should pay Brandon Lloyd a $3 million option bonus. While the team is thin at receiver if they let him go, his erratic play and behavior is weighing heavily on the coaching staff as they make a decision on his future. They'd also save $4.9 million against the cap this season. The paper ends the story with this: "Odds are that he isn't back."
Lloyd nets 70 yards in finale

(1/20/13) Patriots receiver Brandon Lloyd turned in a solid performance but was held under 100 yards receiving and out of the end zone during Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Ravens. Lloyd caught four passes for 40 yards in the first half and came up with seven grabs for 70 yards in a 28-13 defeat. He was targeted 14 times and was the third-leading receiver on the team behind Wes Welker (117 yards) and Aaron Hernandez (83 yards).
