Umenyiora on the move?: Giants defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora, who is owed $3.975 million this year, is still looking for a new contract. He expects the Giants to handle his situation, one way or another, in the near future. "We've had preliminary discussions, but we havent had any serious talks as far as a contract extension or a trade," Umenyiora said Wednesday. "I think things will probably heat up pretty soon." Fantasy Analysis
We could see the Giants trading Umenyiora soon to a team that needs pass rush help this season. Umenyiora had nine sacks last season and has been a solid sack contributor throughout his career. He's injury prone, but the upside in his sack totals make him usable. So long as he sticks in a 4-3 defense, consider him a low-end No. 3 DL in leagues that count tackles and a high-end No. 3 DL in leagues that don't. (Updated 04/25/2012).
05/18/2012 12:03 Giants quietly remain favorites to win the NFC East in 2012
Talking about an NFC East football team this offseason? Odds are pretty good you're not talking about the defending Super Bowl champions. While the Eagles, Cowboys and Redskins are getting all the pub, the Giants are quietly going about their business of getting ready to win.
Osi Umenyiora is expected to return to the Giants in 2012, but his contract expires after this season, which has led to plenty of speculation about his future. There is a chance he could hold out in training camp, and the Giants also might consider using him as trade bait. If he plays with the Giants this season, he would continue to post quality stats. The 30-year-old Umenyiora recorded nine sacks in 2011 -- the fourth consecutive season he's topped at least seven sacks. When Umenyiora is on his game he's capable of double digit sacks, 45-plus tackles and a couple of turnovers, and he should be considered a No. 2 defensive lineman in IDP leagues. He's worth drafting with a late-round pick this season. (Updated 4/24/12)
