Week 3 bust alert: Jason Witten
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3:19 pm ET) Jason Witten has been the lone member of the Dallas passing game to not do anything thus far this season.

Terrance Williams scored a touchdown in Week 1 and last week Dez Bryant found the end zone. Witten, meanwhile, has six catches for 46 yards on 13 targets.

He has a tough matchup this week against the Rams, who held Witten in check last year with five catches for 67 yards on six targets. St. Louis has only allowed three tight ends to reach double digits in Fantasy points in the past 34 games, so we're not expecting a Witten breakout performance this week.

He is a good buy-low candidate though since he still has plenty of chances to play at a high level this season.

Jason Witten turns in another disappointing game
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/14/14) Cowboys tight end Jason Witten was once again one of the team's top-targeted players Week 2 at Tennessee. But like Week 1, the veteran tight end had a disappointing performance.

Witten was targeted seven times Sunday, which was the second-most behind Dez Bryant's 14 targets. While Bryant finished with 10 catches for 103 yards and one touchdown, Witten had four catches for 32 yards and no touchdowns. His longest catch went 15 yards.

Witten had just two catches for 14 yards Week 1, despite six targets. The Cowboys are back in action Week 2 at Tennessee.

Cowboys trying to find ways to help QB not make risky throws
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/9/14) Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo tried on two occasions during a Week 1 loss against the 49ers to force the football to wide receiver Dez Bryant despite being covered by multiple defenders. Both times Romo threw interceptions.

"I think it’s pretty clear -- you don’t force the ball to people," head coach Jason Garrett said, per ESPN. "Dez is a great player, but [Jason Witten is] a great player too. Terrance WilliamsCole BeasleyDevin StreetDwayne Harris, all those guys are really, really good football players, who, if given an opportunity, are going to come through for us. Tony understands that. Tony’s typically struck a really nice balance about trying to give these guys a chance and understanding how to read things out and throwing the ball to the right guy."

As one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, defenses will pay extra attention to Bryant on a weekly basis. Garrett said it will be up to the coaching staff to find ways to get the football to Bryant without having Romo make risky throws.

"It’s what happens every week in the NFL," Garrett said. "Dez Bryant, if you look at his whole body of work throughout his career, he’s gotten doubled throughout most games every game he’s every play. The same thing with Jason Witten. These guys are really good players. Week in and week out they find ways, we’ve tried to find ways to give them opportunities."

Jason Witten to take advantage Week 1?
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/5/14) Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is hoping to strike Week 1 against the 49ers.

Witten had a quiet preseason, catching one ball for 11 yards. That’s not a major concern for the veteran, though. At this point, owners know what they are getting from Witten, so the lack of action in the preseason shouldn’t be worrisome.

The 49ers had some success against tight ends last season, limiting them to 6.42 Fantasy points per game. That figure ranked as the ninth-lowest in the league. A decent part of that success was NaVorro Bowman, who rated well against the pass last season.

Problem is, Bowman will be out for this game, which could open up the middle of the field for Witten. Witten has always been a popular target for Tony Romo, and the quarterback could look to find his tight end a little more often considering San Francisco’s deficiencies. Witten should be considered a decent Fantasy start Week 1.

Jason Witten, DeMarco Murray to miss preseason opener
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/7/14) It appears the Cowboys will not only be without quarterback Tony Romo for Thursday's preseason opener against the Chargers, but running back DeMarco Murray and tight end Jason Witten will also be held out, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Though, the absence of Murray and Witten are not expected to be injury related.

If all three players are sidelined, it will be the second straight season the team opted to sit Romo, Witten and Murray in the preseason opener.
