Bruce Arians: Palmer knows 'the clock's ticking' on winning

(5/20/15) Cardinals' head coach Bruce Arians said quarterback Carson Palmer understands the window to win now is getting slimmer, according to NFL.com.

"He knows the clock's ticking," Arians said Tuesday, via the team's official website. "It is for a lot of guys on this team. You get a window to make a run and most of it depends on your quarterback. Right now, it's our window. There is a sense of urgency."

The Cardinals were 8-1 last season before Palmer went down with a season-ending ACL tear.

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer kept out of 11-on-11 drills

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/19/15) Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer was kept out of 11-on-11 drills during the first day of organized team activities on Tuesday, per ESPN.

Palmer, who is six months removed from surgery to repair a torn left ACL, was limited to 7-on-7 drills instead on Tuesday.

"Just felt good to not be around cones and hurdles, and step overs and all the different on-field things that we've been using -- bags," Palmer said. "It felt good to be around other humans and going 7-on-7 and have that competition, that speed, that quickness of the game because I got a lot of work to do, a long way to go."

Palmer added that he'll play the entire season with a knee brace.

"I've been politicking with the trainers and the physical trainers because 12 plays just isn't enough for me and I need more action out there," Palmer said.

Cardinals' Carson Palmer (knee) participates in drills Monday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/4/15) Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (knee) worked out Monday, participating with the first-team offense in all drills, NFL.com reports.

Though the action wasn't close to replicating game-like conditions, the quarterback said he received a big mental boost by joining his team after missing the last eight games of the season due to a torn ACL.

"You want all your guys out there," Palmer said. "I know I want my five starting linemen and my two starting receivers. You don’t ever want to see guys on the sidelines. Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to do everything once OTAs start, but I’ll be able to do just about everything. It’s important (to participate) because I enjoy it. I can’t wait for tomorrow and I can’t wait for every day."

Palmer said the injury forces him to "start over from scratch" mechanically, as he works to regain the footwork and balance needed to be successful in the pocket.

“All those little things that still go through my head every couple reps, I’m fighting to get to the point where you just don’t think about that anymore,” Palmer said. “It just becomes natural. Just ingraining all those small mechanical movements is something that takes repetition after repetition.”

Report: QB Carson Palmer restructures his contract

(3/12/15) Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer has restructured his contract, according to Kent Somers of azcentral.com. The team converted his $9.5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus. The move frees up $7.1 million in cap space for the Cardinals.

Palmer, 35, was placed on injured reserve last year after tearing his ACL. Prior to the injury, the Cardinals were 6-0 in the games that he started.

Report: Carson Palmer agrees to restructure Cardinals' contract

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(3/6/15) Quarterback Carson Palmer agreed to restructure his contract with the Cardinals, according to a report by ESPN's Josh Weinfuss

Palmer's new contract converts $9.5 million due to him in a roster bonus to signing bonus money. That allows the money to be prorated over several years instead of being applied to this year's salary cap.

The Cardinals save about $7 million against the cap by restructuring Palmer's deal.
