(12/30/12) The Dolphins DST surrendered 28 points on 443 yards of total offense in Week 17 against the Patriots. Tom Brady threw for 284 yards and two scores in the 28-0 defeat while Stevan Ridley racked up 74 yards on the ground while finding the end zone twice. The Dolphins were unable to force a turnover in the blowout loss and only registered one sack.
Dolphins looking to slow down Patriots
(12/25/12) The Dolphins DST will be looking to slow down Tom Brady and the Patriots in Week 17. New England enters the contest ranked first in total offense, averaging 426.9 yards and 35.9 points per game this season. The Dolphins DST is ranked 20th, in terms of Fantasy points, after racking up 41 sacks and forcing 16 turnovers on the year. The unit has also accounted for three touchdowns.
Dolphins force four turnovers
(12/23/12) The Dolphins took care of the Bills handily in Week 16 Sunday, allowing just one late touchdown in a 24-10 win. Miami gave up 381 yards of total offense in the game, but kept the Bills at bay thanks to some timely turnovers. Miami recovered three Buffalo turnovers, and they also picked off quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick once in the game. The Dolphins entered the game with an NFL low 12 turnovers in 14 games. Fitzpatrick was sacked twice in the game.
Dolphins ready for rematch with Bills
(12/22/12) The Dolphins held the Bills in check the last time they faced them, and they will be looking to go two-for-two on the season in Week 16. The Dolphins limited the Bills to just 281 yards of total offense in a 19-14 loss in Week 11, however they failed to force a turnover in the game. This game will put both teams weaknesses in the spotlight, as Miami has forced just one turnover over the last seven games, while the Bills have turned the ball over 11 times in that span.
Dolphins silence Jaguars
(12/16/12) Miami dominated the Jaguars defensively in Week 15 Sunday, limiting them to just 299 yards of total offense in a 24-3 win. The Dolphins held the Jaguars to just 213 yards passing and 86 rushing in the game, and kept them to just 24:22 time of possession, despite forcing no turnovers. The Dolphins racked up just two sacks in the game, but managed to keep the Jaguars off the field by holding them to just 6 of 18 on third and fourth-down conversions.
The Dolphins DST has the ability to be a quality Fantasy unit in 2013, but it needs to generate more turnovers, and hopefully the addition of free agent Dannell Ellerbe will help. In 2012, the Dolphins were among the league leaders in sacks with 42. They were above average in run defense at No. 13 in yards allowed (1,734) but mediocre in pass defense at No. 27 (3,974 yards allowed). The problem, however, was turnovers. Miami had just 10 interceptions on the season and six fumble recoveries, which ranked in the bottom 10 in the NFL in both categories. If Miami can improve in that area then the Dolphins DST should rise. Go into this season with the unit as a No. 2 Fantasy option on Draft Day, and they can be a useful bye-week replacement if they start off the season playing at a high level. (Updated 4/26/13)
