Tomsula praises veteran 49ers RB Reggie Bush
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(6/10/15) Jim Tomsula has not ruled out veteran newcomer Reggie Bush earning the featured back spot this season for the 49ers over young Carlos Hyde, who was the presumed heir apparent to the departed Frank Gore.
"Reggie's really moving around," Tomsula said. "[He's] a spry guy. He has a lot of energy in his legs and in his body and his attitude. What a wonderful addition in all aspects. ... He's moving great and we love having him here."
Bush will not be given a particularly heavy workload in the preseason because the coaches will be more interested in evaluating their younger players. It remains to be seen how the playng time in the backfield will be split in the exhibition season.
49ers RB Reggie Bush wants punt return duties
|by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer|
|(5/31/15) 49ers running back Reggie Bush is a 10-year veteran who hasn't returned a punt in four years, but he wants that role with his new team.
Bush, who has returned four punts for touchdowns in his career, last returned punts as a member of the Dolphins in 2011, but believes he can help the 49ers from that position.
“I did miss it and I just felt like the opportunity was there for me. Just speaking with the coaches, I told them I wanted to return punts and they were all for it. I think it’s something that gives me another way to showcase my talents and help the team. The past four years, just sitting back and watching, it was something I kind of missed, making an impact from a special teams standpoint.”
Bush has totaled 772 yards on 98 career punt returns.
Tomsula: Reggie Bush can be 'an every-down back'
|by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst|
|(3/25/15) The 49ers didn't sign running back Reggie Bush to be "a gadget guy," coach Jim Tomsula told reporters, per the San Jose Mercury News. "Reggie Bush is a running back, and I’m really excited about Reggie joining the crew."
Added Tomsula: "Reggie can be an every down back. He’s done that in the NFL, OK? I don’t know [that] we’re looking that way. Reggie is a very good space player, OK? Reggie can, it’s well documented, his skil set on third down. Reggie, I mean, he’s a running back.”
Bush joins Carlos Hyde and Kendall Hunter in the backfield. The 30-year-old Bush was released after two seasons with the Lions.
49ers officially sign RB Reggie Bush
|by Dave Peters | CBSSports.com|
|(3/18/15) The 49ers announced on Wednesday that they have officially signed running back Reggie Bush to a one-year contract.
Bush, 30, was the second overall pick by the Saints in the 2006 draft. He won a Super Bowl during his time with the Saints. After stints with the Dolphins and Lions, he'll now join the 49ers.
Over his career he has rushed for 5,465 yards and 35 touchdowns. As a receiver out of the backfield he recorded 466 receptions for 3,489 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Report: Reggie Bush opts for California reunion, signs with 49ers
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(3/14/15) After a New Orleans reunion was out of reach, Reggie Bush chose to go back to his home state.
The California native has reached an agreement to join the 49ers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN on Saturday.
Bush, 30, visited New Orleans earlier in the week, but the Saints chose to go a different route with C.J. Spiller. Bush, who also visited San Francisco, will join a backfield that includes Carlos Hyde and Kendall Hunter. All three will look to fill the void left by Frank Gore, who left San Francisco for Indianapolis.
Bush has two 1,000-yard seasons on the ground in the past four years. He dealt with an assortment of injuries in 2014, finishing with only 297 yards on 76 carries with two touchdowns in 11 games.

|It looks like Reggie Bush will settle into a specific role with the 49ers after getting banged up last season with the Lions. He played in 11 games and rarely looked like a speedy, do-it-all back. So while his chances of being a Fantasy asset like he was from 2011 to 2013 have dwindled, he should wind up as a candidate for 50-plus receptions with the Niners as the passing downs back alongside second-year rusher Carlos Hyde. Don't draft the 30-year-old Bush with the hopes of a resurgent season. Instead, ball park him for around 150 touches with minimal touchdown production. Expect him to be taken past the halfway point of your drafts.
