What happened to Marques Colston?
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/17/14) Last week was the first time in 87 games that Marques Colston didn't have a catch. It had little to do with Browns cornerback Joe Haden. It had little to do with injury. It had little to do with his quarterback being constantly under pressure.

But it might have had to do with him not getting open, and it might have had to do with him not playing as much as you might expect -- just 41 of 70 snaps. And maybe a teeny-tiny bit of him fumbling the ball the last time he had his hands on it, a fumble in overtime of Week 1 that cost the Saints a chance at winning.

Maybe there's a smidge of penance that was paid for his Week 1 boo-boo, but the more concerning issue to Fantasy owners was Colston looking slow, which has been the case for a while. That makes him easier to cover and if he's covered, Brees won't throw it to him. To be fair, Brees also has a new toy in the offense (Brandin Cooks) as well as one of the most dominating pass catchers in the league (Jimmy Graham). It goes without saying that they're going to take up a lot of Brees' attention.

This will be a telling week for Colston as he'll play at home against the Vikings. The Saints should light up the scoreboard and if that's the case then Colston could be in for some nice numbers. If he can't do it this week, be it because of a lack of playing time or because he can't get free, then I might start to get nervous about having him as a part of my Fantasy roster.

Saints not concerned about Marques Colston's zero catches
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/16/14) Saints coach Sean Payton doesn't seem overly concerned wide receiver Marques Colston had zero catches during a Week 2 loss at Cleveland, according to ESPN. Payton acknowledged that a receiver having a quiet day in the Saints' offense is normal since the team has plenty of options on offense.

"We got a lot of sub-packages, but I thought by and large we threw it pretty well. The targets sometimes are going to be different," Payton said. "Jimmy (Graham) ended up having one of his better games. That happens with our offense. I thought Kenny Stills was able to have an impact coming back. [Robert] Meachem had some big plays for us. I thought as that game went on Drew [Brees] did a good job of finding the matchups that were advantageous to us."

It didn't help Colston that his playing time was cut from 64 snaps in Week 1 to 41 snaps Sunday.

"We felt he played too many the week prior," Payton explained. "Managing the amount of snaps these guys get and trying to keep them from getting north of 50, for instance. We have depth there. Obviously Brandin (Cooks) received more snaps yesterday. That’s something that we will pay attention to each week."

Marques Colston blanked in Cleveland
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/14/14) The catches racked up by usually productive Saints wide receiver Marques Colston in Cleveland on Sunday can be found inside a donut.

Colston was held without a reception against the Browns. He was not targeted in the game, which is a surprise considering he caught five passes for 110 yards and a score in the season opener.

Late fumble mars great game for Marques Colston
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/7/14) After saying all preseason that his foot will no longer hinder him like in years past, Saints wide receiver Marques Colston showed it with a couple big plays Week 1 at Atlanta. Unfortunately, both ended in disappointment.

The first wasn't his fault. He caught a deep pass over the middle late in the third quarter and weaved through defenders for another 35 yards or so, gaining 57 yards in all. But three plays later, quarterback Drew Brees threw an interception in the end zone, ending the Saints' chance at a touchdown.

The second proved to be devastating for the Saints. At the start of overtime, Colston caught a short pass over the middle with room to run for a potentially big gain, but Falcons defensive back William Moore caught him from behind and swatted the ball out of his arms, setting Atlanta up for a game-winning field goal.

Colston led the team with 110 yards on five catches. He tied for the second-most targets with eight. He'll look to make up for his fumble Week 2 at Cleveland.

Healthier Marques Colston could start big
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/2/14) Saints wide receiver Marques Colston, who has spoken repeatedly this preseason about how much better he feels after battling a foot injury the last couple years, has the perfect opportunity to show it Week 1 at Atlanta.

Not only did the Falcons rank 21st against the pass last year, allowing 243.6 yards per game, but they gave up the eighth-most Fantasy points to a wide receiver. Though they've made some changes to their defense since then, most notably switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 scheme, their starting cornerback tandem of Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford remains unchanged.

Colston caught five passes for 68 yards and a touchdown in his first game against the Falcons last year. He wasn't as productive in the second, catching four passes for 40 yards, and that'll happen to him from time to time on an offense that likes to spread the ball around. But the matchup clearly works in his favor this week, which is why CBSSports.com Fantasy Football analyst Jamey Eisenberg ranks him 20th at wide receiver for the week.
