Marques Colston posts second 100-yard game this year

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) With tight end Jimmy Graham playing limited snaps, Saints wideout Marques Colston produced his second 100-yard game of the season. Colston caught six passes for a season-high 111 yards in the loss at Detroit.

Colston also went over 100 yards in the opener, when he had five catches for 110 yards at Atlanta. Colston was targeted a team-high 10 times Sunday.

He'll play the Packers in Week 8.

Marques Colston can still produce when given the chance

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) With Jimmy Graham limited by a shoulder injury, Marques Colston put up a vintage performance as the Saints' top option in the passing game in Week 7 against the Lions.

Colston, who has taken a step back in the offense yet again this season, put together his finest performance Sunday. He hauled in six passes for 111 yards on 10 targets, all of which led the team. He had just 30 targets in five games entering play Sunday, so it was good to see Drew Brees lean heavily on a veteran who was once the top option in the league's best passing offense.

The days of Colston being a must-start Fantasy option are clearly in the past, but that doesn't mean his days of contributing are behind him. Obviously, Graham's availability could impact Colston's value, but at least he showed he can still be a No. 1 target. If Graham is limited again in Week 8 against the Packers, Colston makes for an intriguing Fantasy start.

Good news, bad news for Brandin Cooks, Marques Colston

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/16/14) In theory, Saints wide receivers Brandin Cooks and Marques Colston should get more looks with tight end Jimmy Graham expected to miss Week 7 at Detroit with a sprained shoulder. The Saints' best options for replacing Graham are Josh Hill and Benjamin Watson, but neither of them are near the receiver he is. Hey, Drew Brees has to throw the ball somewhere.

The problem with that theory is that the Lions are so good against the pass (best in the NFL, actually, allowing just 197.2 yards per game) that more looks -- or a higher percentage of the looks, rather -- might not do either player much good.

At least in points-per-receptions leagues, Cooks is a worthy start. He's a high-volume guy and got his highest volume yet (nine catches on 11 targets) after Graham departed in Week 5, but you might want to steer clear of Colston, who's inconsistent to begin with.

Jamey Eisenberg and Dave Richard both rank him outside the top 30 for this week, to give you some perspective.

Saints' Marques Colston catches three balls

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10/5/14) Saints WR Marques Colston hauled in three balls Week 5.

Colston made the most of his receptions, picking up 63 yards. Colston was able to show off some big play ability during the game, hauling in receptions of 21 and 36 yards. Despite the lack of receptions, Colston finished second on the team in yardage. He was targeted six times, which was actually good for fourth on the club.

Colston is on a bye Week 6.

What now for Marques Colston?

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/1/14) My case against Saints wide receiver Marques Colston last week was in part a response to his reduced production but even more a response to his reduced playing time. He played only about 60 percent of the team's snaps in Weeks 2 and 3 after playing 85 percent in Week 1.

Of course, then he goes and plays a season-high 87 percent Week 4 at Dallas. True, his production was still lacking -- he didn't find the end zone and only gained 50 yards on his five catches -- but his 11 targets were the third-most he's gotten in the last two seasons. Clearly, the Saints still have plans for him.

The Saints also have an especially favorable matchup in Week 5, hosting a Buccaneers team that has allowed the fourth-most yards through the air, averaging 272.5 per game. Even better, they've allowed the most Fantasy points to wide receivers this season, getting burned by Antonio Brown and Julio Jones the last two weeks.

So yeah, Colston is a worthy start in Fantasy, all things considered. But Jamey Eisenberg's and Dave Richard's ranking of him this week -- both have him outside the top 24 at wide receiver -- reveals a general lack of trust. Colston has been a regular enough part of the Saints offense over the years that you don't want to sell him short, but you shouldn't be too eager to start him either.
