Jets say goodbye to Revis
(4/21/13) The New York Jets have traded star cornerback Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for this year's No. 13 overall draft pick and another selection next year, believed to be a conditional fourth-round choice. It leaves the team with a good cornerback in Antonio Cromartie and a decent replacement for Revis in Kyle Wilson. The Jets played most of last season without Revis after he tore an ACL last September and still ranked second vs. the pass, allowing 189.8 pass yards per game with 11 interceptions.
Jets: We're not trading Revis
(2/22/13) The New York Jets made one thing clear Thursday. They're not planning to trade Darrelle Revis. In their most detailed comments since rumors surfaced the team might be shopping Revis, coach Rex Ryan and new general manager John Idzik said they expect Revis to return from his season-ending knee injury as a Jet. "With respect to clarity, I don't know that anything has really changed because we really have always wanted Darrelle to be a part of our team," Idzik said at the league's annual scouting combine in Indianapolis. "That has not changed."
Jets elevate Thurman to coordinator
(1/8/13) The Jets will name secondary coach Dennis Thurman the team's defensive coordinator, according to the New York Post. Thurman has led a secondary including Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie over the years. The Jets ranked second in the league against the pass and allowed 20 touchdowns through the air, but the run defense was skunked for 133.6 rush yards per game and 17 rushing touchdowns while ranking 26th.
Jets hang on to Rex Ryan
(12/31/12) Jets chairman Woody Johnson said in a statement Monday the team would retain head coach Rex Ryan. General manager Mike Tannenbaum was fired. "I believe that he has the passion, the talent, and the drive to successfully lead our team," Johnson said. "Like all Jets fans, I am disappointed with this year's results. However, I am confident that this change will best position our team for greater success going forward."
Jets can't stop Bills' late charge
(12/30/12) During the teams' first meeting this season, the Jets defense allowed C.J. Spiller to rack up 194 total yards and a touchdown. New York was unable to stop him in the rematch in Week 17. Spiller started a 21-0 run by the Bills to close out the game with his 66-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter and send the Jets to their third consecutive loss in a 28-9 defeat during Week 17. The only positive aspect the New York defense managed against Spiller was recovering his fumble during the second half, his third lost fumble of the season.
When Rex Ryan took over as the head coach of the Jets they used to have a dominant defense. Not anymore. The Jets struggled in 2012 for the second year in a row, and the DST is no longer a viable option. Maybe that will change in 2013, but the Jets DST should be considered just a No. 2 Fantasy option in the majority of leagues, especially with Darrelle Revis now in Tampa Bay. Rookie Dee Milliner will try and replace Revis, but he has big shoes to fill. We would not draft the Jets DST in the majority of leagues. (Updated 5/15/13)
