|Chad Greenway dealing with wrist injury |
|by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com|
(8/20/14) Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway has a "little wrist injury" and won't get a full practice workload Wednesday, coach Mike Zimmer told 1500ESPN.com. Greenway had 134 tackles, three interceptions and three sacks last year.
|Chad Greenway could start at middle linebacker |
|by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(7/24/14) Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Chad Greenway is a realistic option to start at middle linebacker, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
" It's a possibility. We keep working him in there," Zimmer said. "We're just trying to find the best 11 players we can and then figure out where the rest of the guys are going to fit. It’s not out of the question, but time will tell a little bit more on that."
Zimmer was a strong-side linebacker last season for the Vikings.
|Anthony Barr not quite a Fantasy rookie stud |
|by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(5/9/14) Anthony Barr is listed as a linebacker by the Vikings, a move that, for now, keeps his Fantasy value a little low. Of course, this might have been the case even if he were listed as a defensive end because Barr doesn't come into the NFL with a long track record of success.
Barr, a former running back, is powerful, athletic and fast but has just two years of work on defense at UCLA. The numbers are great -- he totaled 152 tackles and 23.5 sacks in two seasons -- and the coaching staff he'll work with is also great. But for Fantasy purposes he could lag statistically because of his likely role as a strong-side linebacker.
Unless the Vikings rid themselves of Chad Greenway, there's a chance Barr will underwhelm. We'd take him late in seasonal and long-term Fantasy leagues and with a third- or fourth-round pick in rookie-only drafts.
|Chad Greenway takes pay cut to stay with Vikings |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(3/15/14) Outside linebacker Chad Greenway has agreed to take a pay cut from $6.5 million to $5.5 million, thereby ensuring he will remain with the Vikings in 2014, per USA Today.
Greenway placed 10th in the NFL in tackles last season with 134, but managed just three sacks. He has exceeded 100 tackles in six of the last seven years.
|Chad Greenway big on tackles again |
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(12/23/13) Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway recorded eight tackles, including four solo, Week 16 at Cincinnati. He has recorded at least eight in 10 of 15 games this season and is averaging 8.6 per game.
|While the Vikings asked Chad Greenway to take a pay cut to stick around, Fantasy owners have remained happy with him for years. Greenway has posted at least 130 total tackles for four straight seasons with a handful of other defensive stats to go with it. That's all well and good but he did not have a good 2013 by any means and the team could push him down the depth chart (or off the roster) if he doesn't show any improvement early on. A new coaching staff doesn't mean he'll be considered a lock for the roster either -- they could draft a replacement. So despite the fact that he's been so productive, Fantasy owners shouldn't accept Greenway as a Top 20 Fantasy linebacker. We'd probably draft him with a late-round pick, thus minimizing any risk involved with drafting him to an important role for your roster.
