Jones a spark for Steelers D

(5/14/13) The drafting of Georgia outside linebacker Jarvis Jones should give the Steelers a much-needed shot of defensive help. Jones caused mayhem at Georgia, making 28 sacks over two years with the Bulldogs. He'll replace James Harrison, who left for the Bengals. Safety Shamarko Thomas from Syracuse and cornerback Terry Hawthorne are the other potential impact rookies for the Steelers, who did not add any significant veterans via free agency.

Steelers shut down Browns’ backups

(12/30/12) The Steelers got lucky in Week 17, as the Browns’ starting quarterback Brandon Weeden and starting running back Trent Richardson were both forced to miss Sunday’s game due to injuries. The Browns had to turn to backup options, and managed just 320 yards of total offense in a 24-10 Steelers’ victory. Pittsburgh forced four turnovers in the game, a season high, as they recovered three fumbles. The Steelers also came up with three sacks of Thaddeus Lewis, and they picked him off once as well.

Steelers could feast on backups

(12/29/12) The Browns had one of their worst offensive days of the season the last time they faced the Steelers, their Week 17 opponent. In a 20-14 Week 12 win, the Steelers held Cleveland to 238 yards of total offense, while coming up with four sacks and an interception. The Steelers could be in line for an even better game in Week 17, as the Browns will be forced to start recently-signed quarterback Thaddeus Lewis and backup running back Montario Hardesty, due to injuries to Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson in the season finale.

Steelers limit Bengals in loss

(12/23/12) The Steelers did a solid job of limiting the Bengals in Week 16, especially on the ground. Pittsburgh allowed just 14 yards rushing and 267 yards of total offense but ended up losing 13-10. The Steelers intercepted quarterback Andy Dalton twice and sacked him six times while causing three total turnovers. Cincinnati wideout A.J. Green totaled 10 catches for 116 yards, however.

Steelers to limit Bengals again?

(12/18/12) The Steelers did a solid job of limiting the Bengals when the division foes met earlier again and will be looking to do so again in Week 16. Pittsburgh allowed just 185 yards of total offense in their 24-17 Week 7 win. The Steelers boast the No. 1 pass defense in the NFL, giving up under 181 yards per game, and rank fourth against the run. Cincinnati ranks 11th in rushing and 17th in passing.
