Lions won't file tampering charge against Ravens for Ngata comment

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(4/2/15) The Lions announced they will not file tampering charges against the Ravens a day after owner Steve Bisciotti told season-ticket holders that there's a chance defensive tackle Haloti Ngata could return to Baltimore in 2016.

The statement was released via the team site's Tim Twentyman

“The Ravens have reached out to us concerning the comments made yesterday by Steve Bisciotti regarding Haloti Ngata. We appreciate both the Ravens’ professionalism and the context in which Mr. Bisciotti’s statements were made. We consider the matter to be a non-issue.”

The Ravens traded Ngata to the Lions in March. NFL rules stipulate a team is not allowed to talk publicly or privately about a player that is under contract with another team.

Ravens' Steve Bisciotti: Haloti Ngata could return in 2016

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(4/1/15) In a conference call with PSL ticket holders, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti didn't rule out the possibility of defensive tackle Haloti Ngata returning to the organization in 2016.

The Ravens tried to restructure Ngata's contract but were unable to, and thus traded him to the Lions. Ngata is in the final year of a four-year, $48.5 million contract he signed after the 2011 season started.

Ngata was drafted by the Ravens in the first round in 2006. In his nine-year career, he's totaled 445 tackles and 25.5 sacks.

Haloti Ngata: Ray Rice would be a 'great addition' to the Lions

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/14/15) With Reggie Bush likely out of the picture, new Lions defensive tackle Haloti Ngata said in an interview on WXYT-FM in Detroit that he'd be open to having former teammate Ray Rice join him in Detroit.

"I've never hung out with him off-field, but he’s a great guy," Ngata said. "He's a great guy on the field, in the locker room. He's a great community guy. He does a lot for the community, and so of course I think he would be a great addition to this team. I love playing with him, I trusted him. You feel bad for his situation. You just hope nothing but the best for him."

Rice was suspended indefinitely by the league due to an altercation with his then-fiancee. An arbitrator overturned that suspension, and he reportedly received $1.6 million in wrongful termination case after he was released by the Ravens. The 28-year-old spent his first six years with the Ravens, and produced four straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons before running for 660 yards and averaging a career-low 3.1 yards per carry in 2013.

Lions DT Haloti Ngata ready to prove he doesn't need PEDs

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/13/15) New Lions defensive tackle Haloti Ngata missed the final four regular season games in 2014 for the Ravens as he was serving a suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. The veteran tackle, who was acquired in a trade Tuesday, later admitted to taking Adderall.

Now that he is getting a fresh start with the Lions, Ngata is out to prove he can still play at a high level without the help of performance-enhancing drugs, per MLive.com.

"You want to show that you weren't using that the whole time," Ngata said, "and you do want to not finish off your career with a suspension. So it's just, I wanted to get out and keep on playing.

"With my suspension last year, I just feel like I didn't want to end off on something like that, and that be my legacy. I just wanted to continue to play. And my body feels great, so I just wanted to continue to keep on playing."

DT Haloti Ngata says he'd like to sign extension with Lions

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(3/11/15) Newly acquired defensive tackle Haloti Ngata said at his introductory news conference that he'd like to sign an extension with the Lions, reports MLive.com. Ngata, 31, has one year left on his deal.

"Yeah, definitely. We're open to everything," Ngata said. "Just being here so far, I'm getting really comfortable already. And once I meet the guys, I know I'll just want to stay here. So if an extension comes to mind, that'd be awesome. If not, then it is what it is."

Ngata is a five-time Pro Bowler who'll step in for Ndamukong Suh. Detroit acquired Ngata via trade Tuesday.
