Panthers D building something big
(5/2/13) Carolina's defense is trending in the right direction after picking up 39 sacks and holding opponents to 3,568 passing yards and 1,761 rushing yards in 2012 (yes that's not bad) in 2012. They addressed their defensive line in the draft, picking up defensive tackles Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short with first- and second-round picks respectively. The front seven might feature two rookies up front and second-year middle linebacker Luke Kuechly behind them.
Panthers DST has quiet game
(12/30/12) The Panthers DST, as expected, did not do much in Week 17 at New Orleans. The Panthers had one interception and two sacks while allowing 441 total yards in a 44-38 victory.
Panthers take Palmer out early
(12/23/12) The Panthers kept the Raiders from scoring an offensive touchdown for the second game in a row in Week 16 Sunday, as the Oakland was left to scramble following a first quarter injury to Carson Palmer. Palmer was forced to leave the game after just three pass attempts, after a vicious hit knocked him out of the game and earned a roughing the passer penalty. The Raiders were lost without Palmer at the helm, as they racked up just 189 yards of total offense in a 17-6 loss. The Panthers defense forced one turnover on a Matt Leinart interception, and they had just one sack in the game.
Panthers to face four-win Raiders
(12/20/12) The Panthers defense is coming off its best performance of the season, holding the Chargers to a season-low seven points on 164 yards Week 15. The Panthers will be looking for similar results Week 16 when the Raiders come to town. The Raiders have been held under 10 points just once this season, but haven't scored more than 17 points in their last five games. Oakland is 12th in total offense (360.7 yards per game), but 26th in scoring offense (18.8 points per game).
Panthers take charge out of Bolts
(12/16/12) The Panthers did a solid job of limiting the Chargers in Week 15. Carolina allowed just 164 total yards, including 94 through the air, in the 31-7 win. San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers threw for a season-low 121 yards and fumbled four times, with Carolina recovering two of them. The Panthers also sacked Rivers six times in the victory.
