Matt Ryan, Julio Jones regain chemistry quickly
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11:43 am ET) Falcons receiver Julio Jones was back in pads Tuesday for the first time since his 2013 foot surgery, and he was clicking with quarterback Matt Ryan, according to the team's website.

"I felt like watching Julio and Matt work together, it’s like they hadn’t missed a beat," coach Mike Smith said. "Julio looks like he’s comfortable out there, getting back into the action. We are having him on a prescription of work one day, off one day, and we’ll make a determination as we get further into training camp, whether that’s going to change or not, but it’s worked well for us up to this point in time and when he and Matt have had an opportunity to get some snaps together, they’ve been productive and efficient."

Ryan said it's great to have Jones back.

"He’s an unbelievable player, such an incredible talent," Ryan said. "I can’t believe he’s in year four, now. He’s so much more mature, has such a better understanding of our offense at this point that he’s teaching a lot of guys that are here. He’s a big help for me in terms of getting some of our new guys on board and up to speed, but watching him out there, he looks great. He looks really healthy and I’ve been really impressed with how he’s come back from the injury."

Falcons to lean on Matt Ryan
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/27/14) The Falcons are talking about being a balanced offense this season and going with a 50-50 split with the run and pass plays. But ESPN reports that's not likely to happen with Matt Ryan and Co.

The report says that even though offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter has acknowledged a renewed emphasis on the run game, the Falcons will still rely on Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White to carry the offense. New offensive line coach Mike Tice seems to agree.

"We're not going to be a run-first football team, by any means, with those two great receivers and that great quarterback," Tice said. "But when that man -- my buddy Dirk Koetter -- dials up the run, we better be able to run it for 4 yards."

The report says don't anticipate Ryan again attempting a career-high 651 passes like he did last season. The Falcons played their share of games from behind, forcing Ryan into even more throwing situations.

But the report says Ryan should be among the Top 5 quarterbacks in passing yards for a third consecutive season, especially with Jones and White now healthy.

Matt Ryan not pressured by new deal
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/24/14) Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan doesn't feel any added pressure after signing his $100 million contract last year, reports ESPN.

"I don't worry about it too much," Ryan said. "I think it’s one of those things ... you understand playing this position, the stuff that comes with it. And that's one of those things that comes with it. I'm a big believer in if you're worrying about that stuff, you're not worrying about the right stuff. I have to be concerned with what I'm doing on the field, what I'm doing in the weight room, and how I'm preparing myself in the meeting rooms. And I feel like if you do that stuff and you’re concentrating on improving in those areas, then all the other stuff ends up taking care of itself. And that’s kind of the way I’ve approached it."

Tony Gonzalez: Matt Ryan not an elite quarterback yet
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/6/14) Retired Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez told ESPN The Magazine that quarterback Matt Ryan is not an elite quarterback. "Matt's an excellent quarterback," Gonzalez said, "But he's not elite. He's this close. He'll get there, but he has some learning to do."

Ryan is coming off a down year in which he threw 26 touchdown passes and committed 21 turnovers. He'll benefit from a healthy Julio Jones in 2014.

Matt Ryan compiles colossal home-road split
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/30/13) Most quarterbacks play better at home, but the Falcons' Matt Ryan produced a massive home-road split this season. In the Georgia Dome, Ryan completed 73 percent of his throws for 2,341 yards and 13 touchdowns against three interceptions.

On the road, Ryan hit 62 percent of his throws for 2,174 yards and 13 touchdowns -- against 14 interceptions. Ryan had a 102.6 passer rating at home, 77.0 on the road.

Ryan's overall numbers should improve next season, assuming No. 1 receiver Julio Jones returns healthy.
