(3/12/13) ESPN reports that the Cowboys announced that linebacker Anthony Spencer signed his franchise tender at $10.6 million on Tuesday. Spencer, who was given the franchise tag for the second year in a row, led Dallas with 95 total tackles and had 11 sacks in 14 games last season.

(3/4/13) The agent for Cowboys pass rusher Anthony Spencer posted on Twitter that his client had been franchise tagged for the second year in a row. He will earn a guaranteed $10.6 million on a one-year deal in 2013. Spencer led Dallas with 95 total tackles and had 11 sacks in 14 games last season.

(1/28/13) ESPN reports the Cowboys and representatives for linebacker Anthony Spencer have had "preliminary talks" about a new deal. Spencer will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. While he would be a candidate for the franchise tag for the second year in a row, he'd also put a strain on the salary cap for a team already hurting there. Spencer led Dallas with 95 total tackles and had 11 sacks in 14 games last season.

| Anthony Spencer had a career year in 2012 with 11 sacks and 95 total tackles (55 solo). It helped him earn the franchise tag for the second year in row, and Spencer will be playing for a new contract. Duplicating the double digits in sacks will be difficult, but Spencer will benefit with the expected move from linebacker to defensive line in the new 4-3 scheme the Cowboys will run.
