Dolphins snare LB Wheeler: The Dolphins have signed linebacker Philip Wheeler to a five-year deal. Wheeler posted career highs in tackles (109), sacks (three), passes defensed (six) and forced fumbles (two) with the Raiders last year.

Wheeler signed on the same day as Dannell Ellerbe and should be the Dolphins' strong-side linebacker. We suspect he'll take a dip in tackles this season and be more of a reserve option for owners in deeper leagues.

It is perhaps appropriate that the Dolphins selected Dallas Thomas with the No. 77 overall pick, considering this is the jersey number Jake Long wore for Miami. Expect the versatile and battle-tested lineman to emerge as a quality starter in Miami ... and soon.

Last year, Wheeler set career highs in tackles (108), sacks (three), fumble recoveries (one) and pass defenses (six). He should be considered a No. 3 linebacker in IDP leagues.
