Ansah highlights Lions' offseason
(5/6/13) Defensively, the Lions' biggest move was selecting BYU pass rusher Ezekiel Ansah with a first-round pick in April. He was one of four rookie defenders taken by the team and should be one of at least three new starters on the Lions defense along with defensive end Jason Jones and safety Glover Quin. Fellow rookie cornerback Darius Slay might also start.
Lions end with a whimper
(12/30/12) The Lions DST sacked Jay Cutler twice in Sunday's 26-24 loss to the Bears, while failing to record an interception or fumble recovery in the game.
Lions continue to falter
(12/27/12) Here's the good news: the only time this season the Lions have hit double-digits in Fantasy points was Week 7, when they scored 11 points against the Bears, their Week 17 opponent. They sacked Jay Cutler five times and only allowed Chicago to score 13 points.
Lions cant slow down Ryan
(12/23/12) The Lions provided very little resistance to Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, as they surrendered four passing touchdowns in a 25-32 loss. The Lions held the Falcons to just 344 yards of total offense, their fourth-lowest total of the season, however Ryan was efficient enough to toss four touchdowns in the game. The Lions only managed to sack Ryan once, and failed to produce a turnover in the game.
Lions facing tough challenge
(12/20/12) The Lions DST will have a difficult matchup heading into Saturday's contest against the Falcons at home in Week 16. The Lions will have to limit Matt Ryan, who has thrown for 4,202 yards with 27 touchdowns this season, ranked fifth in the league. Ryan threw for just 218 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in his previous meeting against the Lions in Week 7 of the 2011 season. The Lions have allowed 218.1 yards per game through the air, which is 11th against the pass this season.
| A year ago the Lions DST appeared as one of the most promising options in Fantasy. Now, they'll give you a stomach ache. The unit totaled 34 sacks, 11 interceptions and zero touchdowns in 2012, producing 10 or more Fantasy points just four times. They were particularly mediocre vs. the run (1,889 yards and 13 touchdowns allowed) and the pass (3,569 yards, 26 touchdowns) but allowed on average 27.3 points per game and that helped lead to their downfall. They addressed the pass rush by selecting Ezekiel Ansah with their first-round pick and also picked up versatile lineman Jason Jones from the Titans. But until it's proven that those two additions will bring the heat, no one should count on the Lions DST in 2013 even with a fairly decent opening schedule (vs. the Vikings, at the Cardinals, at the Redskins).
