Matt Schaub 'getting his mojo back'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/29/14) After a disastrous 2013 season with the Texans, quarterback Matt Schaub is settling in with the Raiders and regaining his confidence, reports the Sacramento Bee.

"Schauby's getting his mojo back," defensive tackle Antonio Smith told the paper. "He's getting his confidence back. He's starting to believe in himself again.

"He's starting to throw with confidence. Those are things you need to be a successful quarterback. You would be surprised just much a mindset is important in this game. ... The moment you are doubting yourself is the moment you start throwing a lot of interceptions and stuff."

Raiders coach Dennis Allen thinks Schaub can again be a Top-10 quarterback.

"I think he's in a good frame of mind," Allen said. "I think he's very hungry. I think he's excited about the new opportunity. I think anytime you go into something new there's a little bit of, maybe it's an increased focus, an increased intensity level, because it is new. You kind of force yourself out of your comfort zone a little bit. I think he's done that."

Raiders confident in Matt Schaub
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/25/14) The Raiders are expecting quarterback Matt Schaub to put his disaster of a 2013 season behind him this year, reports ESPN.

Schaub was benched in his final year with the Texans before being traded to Oakland this offseason.

"I don't have any problems with Matt Schaub's confidence," coach Dennis Allen said. "I think he's in a good frame of mind. I think he's very hungry. I think he's excited about the new opportunity."

Schaub should benefit from a change of scenery, Allen said.

"I think anytime you go into something new, there's a little bit of, maybe it's an increased focus, an increased intensity level, because it is new," Allen said. "You kind of force yourself out of your comfort zone a little bit. I think he's done that. I think he's been very focused and very driven this offseason and I don't think there's any question that he's got something that he wants to go out and prove."

Allen to 'ride or die' with Matt Schaub
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/17/14) Raiders coach Dennis Allen is counting on quarterback Matt Schaub this season, reports ESPN.

The report says about Allen that "Schaub is his guy." Schaub has reportedly looked "impressive" in the offseason non-padded practices open to the media.

The Raiders do have the option of turning to rookie Derek Carr. But, per the report, "Allen appears ready to ride or die with Schaub, for better or worse."

Derek Carr could push Matt Schaub for No. 1 job
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/12/14) Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr could push Matt Schaub for the starting job, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Coach Dennis Allen said "everything is written in pencil."

Offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Carr has been "better than we thought he would be." Carr came in behind Schaub and second-year player Matt McGloin during practice but has already started taking away second-team snaps from McGloin.

"I really, really like him," Olson said of Carr. "Everybody knew he was accurate, but he is more accurate than we thought. ... We'll have to wait and see how he does against a live rush, but so far his intelligence, accuracy and quickness in getting the ball out has been excellent."

Matt Schaub psyched to have 'more control' in Oakland
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/23/14) New Raiders quarterback Matt Schaub said Thursday that he's looking forward to having "more control" while under center in Oakland according to the Contra Costa Times

"To come to an offense where the coach is looking to give you more freedom, and looking to give you more control of things," Schaub said when asked what he's looking forward to. "I had that in some aspects in Houston, but there are things I'm being asked to do here that I didn't have control of in Houston. I would have loved to, but we just weren't in control of it. To now be in that position, and being the quarterback, that's such a great place to be because you can get everyone on the same page. You can get into a great play, a better play that you had called."
