(2/12/14) Linebacker Jonathan Vilma is set for free agency this spring and it looks like the Saints will let him go. A source tells ProFootballTalk.com that Vilma's return isn't likely. It could be because of a lingering knee problem.
Vilma played in one game last year and 12 the past two years because of his knee and because of a suspension stemming from the team's ill-conceived bounty program.

(10/21/13) Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma remains on short-term injured reserve with a knee injury, but he was able to practice Monday for the first time, reports the National Football Post. Vilma is eligible to play in Week 9.
|Jonathan Vilma fought the NFL and won, but he's still trailing Father Time. The slowdown continued for Vilma in 2012, as he averaged 3.7 total tackles per start with a sack, two passes defensed and an interception returned for a touchdown. The Saints' move to a 3-4 scheme should further evaporate Vilma's tackle numbers, which were excellent as recently as 2010. Now, Vilma isn't worth drafting. Curtis Lofton is the Saints linebacker to target. (Updated 4/26/13) |
