Patriots decline Vince Wilfork's team option; DT will become free agent
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(3/5/15) Vince Wilfork, who won a championship once as a rookie and again in February, took to Twitter Thursday morning to announce that the Patriots will not pick up his two-year team option, which will make him a free agent when the league calendar opens on March 10. He was expected to count $8.9 million against the salary cap next season.
"One major injury -- lots of gas still left in the tank," Willfork said in a statement. "I will take my time to think things through..."
Wilfork posted 47 tackles and one interception in 2014. He has registered 516 combined tackles, 16 sacks, four forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries and three interceptions through 11 seasons with the Patriots.

Vince Wilfork intends to return to the Patriots in 2015
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(2/5/15) Vince Wilfork won another Super Bowl ring with the Patriots this year, but if he has any say in the matter, he doesn't plan to go out on top.
The defensive tackle told Dale & Holley of WEEI radio in Boston that he plans to return for at least one more season with the team in 2015.
"I'm already looking forward to next year to see if we can do it again," Wilfork told WEEI. "... I still have a lot of football in me."
Wilfork added that he worked too hard to come back from an Achilles injury last year to retire so soon.
Of course, there's no guarantee that the Patriots feel the same way. He's expected to count $8.9 million against the salary cap next season.
Patriots' Vince Wilfork helps rescue motorist from overturned vehicle
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(1/19/15) After helping New England to a 45-7 rout of the Colts in Sunday's AFC title game, Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork apparently still had enough energy to help rescue a motorist from an overturned car. Massachusetts State Police said Wilfork helped them rescue a woman trapped in a car after it rolled over near Gillette Stadium.
State troopers responded to reports of an overturned vehicle on Route 1 in Foxborough, Mass., shortly before 1 a.m. ET. When they arrived on the scene, Wilfork was next to the vehicle checking on the driver, according to police.
The driver of the overturned vehicle, 38-year-old Mary Ellen Brooks, was unable to get out of her 2015 Jeep Wrangler. As police held open the driver's door, "Wilfork reached in and helped lift the operator out of the vehicle with one hand," police said.
"I saw somebody that needed help, and I helped," Wilfork told reporters Monday, per the Boston Herald.
Police said Brooks was then placed under arrest after being helped from the vehicle and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
If Pats rest starters, DT Vince Wilfork could lose $1.25M

|(12/24/14) The Patriots have locked up homefield advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. If coach Bill Belichick rests starters Sunday against the Bills, defensive tackle Vince Wilfork could lose $1.25 million, reports CSNNE.com.
Wilfork's contract has an escalator paying him $1.25 million if he plays 70 percent of the defensive snaps this season. He's played 74.1 percent so far but could fall below 70 percent if he sits out Week 17, the report said.
Wilfork has started every game this year, making 46 tackles and an interception.
Vance Wilfork has game-clinching interception
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
|(9/21/14) Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork was in the right place at not only the right time, but also the best possible time Week 3 against Oakland. With the Raiders on the verge of scoring a game-tying touchdown with about a minute to play in the fourth quarter, a pass intended for Denarius Moore was deflected off two Patriots defenders and into a diving Wilfork's arms for a game-clinching interception.
It was the third interception of Wilfork's career. The other two came in 2011. He finished Week 3 with three tackles, including one solo.
|Vince Wilfork will return to the Patriots this season after he agreed to a three-year contract extension in March. He is coming off an Achilles injury, and we expect him to make a full recovery. Wilfork is a key player for the Patriots defense, but he has minimal Fantasy value in IDP leagues. Wilfork is more of a run-stuffer than anything else and doesn't produce enough stats to help your Fantasy team (he has 16 career sacks, for example). Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
