Trestman singles out Williams: Bears coach Marc Trestman said new linebacker D.J. Williams is off to a great start in minicamp this far. "He's a guy who has come here to reinvent himself, so to speak," Trestman said. "Maybe that's the wrong term but you know he's in a new place in a new time and a new start. There's guys on this team that know him and think very highly of him, guys in the locker room that think very highly of him. He's very noticeable out there in practice." (Updated 4/18/13) |

Before suspensions for off-field incidents cost him playing time last season he had at least 90 total tackles in each of his previous five seasons and at least 2.5 sacks in his previous four. He'll be turning 31 before the start of the season so there's a chance he could begin to decline but with the potential there for a strong year we don't hate the idea of spending a mid- to late-round pick on him assuming he does indeed earn the starting middle linebacker job in Chicago. | D.J. Williams has a lot to prove in Chicago after a tough year in 2012. Williams was suspended for nine games last year following a conviction in August of driving while ability-impaired, his second alcohol-related offense since joining the league. The hope now is that he can regain his pre-2012 form then he could be a steal for IDP owners with a late-round pick. Prior to last year, Williams had at least 90 total tackles in four of the past five seasons, and he had 10.5 sacks in the past two years. Keep an eye on his role with the Bears. He might be worth a late-round flier. (Updated 4/25/13) |
