Greg Olsen does little in third preseason game
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/22/14) Panthers tight end Greg Olsen did little Friday night against the Patriots in exhibition action. Olsen caught a short 5-yard pass on the opening drive and a 16-yard pass from Cam Newton late in the second quarter. He played the first two quarters and was targeted four times. He finished with two catches for 21 yards.
Greg Olsen (calf) held out as a precaution Thursday
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/14/14) The Panthers announced Greg Olsen did not practice Thursday due to a calf injury. However, he was merely held out as a precaution.
Greg Olsen not worried about receiving corps
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/24/14) Panthers tight end Greg Olsen is tired of hearing the talk about the team not having a quality receiving corps this season, reports the Charlotte Observer.

The Panthers lost Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn this offseason and replaced them with rookie Kelvin Benjamin, Jerricho Cotchery and Jason Avant, but Olsen feels there won't be a drop-off.

"It's kind of been the storyline of the offseason. Any time the Panthers have come up that’s kind of been the first comment made by everybody. I think guys are just kind of tired of it," Olsen said. "I think we feel confident about our group. I think people are eager to get there, get to work and put together what works for us as an offense."

Cam Newton needed Kelvin Benjamin
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/9/14) No quarterback needed a receiver more than Cam Newton, and thankfully the Panthers gave him one Thursday night in the first round of the NFL Draft. With pick No. 28, the Panthers selected Kelvin Benjamin from Florida State.

Benjamin immediately becomes the best receiver in Carolina (tight end Greg Olsen is obviously the best weapon, but we're talking just wideouts). After losing Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn this offseason, the Panthers went into Thursday night with Jerricho Cotchery, Jason Avant and Tiquan Underwood atop the depth chart. Yes, you read that right.

We're not expecting Benjamin to become an elite Fantasy receiver, but this is a great opportunity. In two seasons with the Seminoles (27 games) Benjamin posted 1,452 yards on 80 catches with 18 touchdowns -- 14 last season. He was a great weapon for Jameis Winston for the Seminoles, and we hope he does the same for Newton. At 6-foot-5, 240 pounds he is a great target.

Newton, who is coming off ankle surgery, is still a No. 2 Fantasy quarterback on Draft Day because of his lack of weapons. But if Benjamin can develop quickly, and Newton goes back to running more, his value will rise.

As for Benjamin, he's worth a late-round flier in re-draft leagues. And he's a second-round pick in rookie-only formats.

Cam Newton's receivers: Zero catches in NFL
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/16/14) The Panthers have let their top four receivers depart, leaving quarterback Cam Newton with an extremely inexperienced group of wideouts. Tavarres King and Marvin McNutt sit atop the depth chart. Neither has caught an NFL pass.

Top free agent receivers, including hometown favorite Hakeem Nicks, signed elsewhere, though James Jones remains available. Look for Carolina to select multiple receivers in the draft.

At least Newton has tight end Greg Olsen returning. He led the team with 73 catches for 816 yards and six touchdowns last year.
