| (2/13/13) Head coach Leslie Frazier, who signed a multi-year contract extension with the Vikings on Wednesday, told ESPN he won't have quarterback Christian Ponder compete for the starting job. | (1/8/13) ESPN reports that Vikings coach Leslie Frazier stands behind quarterback Christian Ponder heading into 2013. "He's our starter," Frazier said. Ponder was uneven in 2012. | No surgery for Ponder |
| (1/7/13) According to ESPN, Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder, who missed the Wild Card game at Green Bay with an arm injury, will not need surgery. Ponder dealt with an injury to his triceps muscle that had shut down to the point he couldn't even lob a soccer ball during a session with the athletic trainers the day after the injury. The report says his elbow area was so swollen there was a belief from people who saw the arm Ponder had a recurrence of the bursitis that plagued him during his senior year at Florida State. Ponder simply had no strength in the triceps and knew after an abbreviated pregame workout he still couldn't throw the football. "I think it's something that will heal up," Ponder said. "No surgery or anything. Just giving it some time and it will get there." |
| Ponder inactive with elbow issue |
| (1/5/13) The Vikings have listed quarterback Christian Ponder inactive for Saturday's Wild Card game at Green Bay as he continues to deal with bursitis in his throwing (right) elbow. Ponder was limited in practice throughout the week with the injury and made a very brief appearance during Saturday's warmups. According to ESPN.com, he threw 10-15 passes that traveled no more than 15 yards before heading back into the locker room. Backup quarterback Joe Webb started in Ponder's place. After the game, reports indicated Ponder was suffering from a triceps bruise that extended the length of his elbow. |
| Ponder dealing with bursitis |

That said, Ponder is still expected to start against the Packers, though his status is becoming more of a game-time decision. |
