Brady loses Welker, adds Amendola: Tom Brady lost receiver Wes Welker to the Broncos via free agency on Wednesday, but the Patriots replaced him with Danny Amendola. Amendola is considered a very similar player to Welker -- both are about the same size and even went to the same college (Texas Tech). Amendola also has experience in the Pats' offense as offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels served in the same role with the Rams in 2011, though Amendola had major elbow and triceps injuries that kept him sidelined for 15 games. | Fantasy Analysis |
According to reports, Brady was very upset when the Patriots let Welker walk but in time he should find a comfort zone with Amendola. We'll see if New England adds any other receiving threats between now and the season but with Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez and a slew of other role players (which might include Brandon Lloyd, we'll see) joining Amendola, Brady should be in line for another very solid season. He's the consensus No. 4 quarterback overall in Fantasy, just behind Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Welker's new quarterback, Peyton Manning. You might find Brady in Round 3 or even Round 4 in drafts this summer. What a bargain. (Updated 3/13/13). |
| Tom Brady enters this season trying to remain among the elite quarterbacks. We expect that to happen. In 2012, Brady was a Top 3 Fantasy quarterback for the third year in a row. He had more than 4,800 passing yards for the second year in a row, more than 37 total touchdowns for the third year in a row and for the second time in his past three years he had fewer than 10 interceptions. At a time when running quarterbacks are all the rage, Brady continues to dominate. His receiving corps is in flux with Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd gone and Danny Amendola, Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce and Donald Jones now in. But he still has the services of Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, and along with Amendola, Brady should be fine. Brady should be among the Top 4 quarterbacks drafted this season along with Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning, and we recommend drafting him toward the end of Round 2. If he falls to Round 3 then consider him a steal. (Updated 5/15/13) |
