Brady loses Welker, adds Amendola
(3/13/13) Tom Brady lost receiver Wes Welker to the Broncos via free agency on Wednesday, but the Patriots replaced him with Danny Amendola. Amendola is considered a very similar player to Welker -- both are about the same size and even went to the same college (Texas Tech). Amendola also has experience in the Pats' offense as offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels served in the same role with the Rams in 2011, though Amendola had major elbow and triceps injuries that kept him sidelined for 15 games.
Brady signs three-year extension
(2/25/13) Sports Illustrated reports that the Patriots signed quarterback Tom Brady to a three-year contract extension Monday. He will now remain with New England through the 2017 season, when he will be 40 years old. According to the report, the deal is for $27 million. The extension will pay Brady a $3 milion signing bonus immediately, in addition to salaries of $7 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016 and $9 million in 2017.
Kraft talks Brady's future
(2/2/13) New England quarterback Tom Brady's long-term future with the team was described as a "dual decision" by owner Bob Kraft, reports CSN New England. "I think he had a remarkable year this year and I think we look at each year as it happens," Kraft said when asked if he were concerned about the advanced age of Brady. "I'd love him to be here as long as he's productive and feels he wants to play." Brady, who will be 36 in August, is signed with the Patriots through 2014.
Brady bunched up by Ravens
(1/20/13) Patriots quarterback Tom Brady completed 29 of 54 passes for 320 yards and just one touchdown during New England's 28-13 loss to Baltimore in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. Brady was forced into throwing two interceptions -- both in the fourth quarter -- as the Patriots were held scoreless in the second half. His lone touchdown pass went to Wes Welker on a 1-yard strike in the second quarter. Brady surpassed 300 yards passing in both playoff games this season to give him six such performances in his career, tied for second all-time with Joe Montana and Kurt Warner. Peyton Manning tops the list with eight 300-yard postseason outings.
Brady knew he would be great
(1/18/13) Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is set to face the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, and a victory would put him in the Super Bowl for the sixth time. But back in 2001, when Brady was making his second career start, which was a 30-10 loss in Miami, he had a prophetic message for backup Damon Huard, according to ESPN. "You know, Damon," Huard recalled Brady saying, "I've been playing this game my whole life. I've started a couple games now, and it's the same game, man. It's no different. I kid you not, it's not that hard. I'm going to be a great one. I'm going to be one of the best at this game."
